ARMS DEAL COMMISSION FAILED TO DO ITS JOB – Corruption Watch wants the court to review and set aside the findings of the inquiry that was appointed by former president Jacob Zuma

The court application by Corruption Watch and Right2know comes after Judge Willie Seriti, who headed the commission exonerated politicians of wrongdoing-when he released his report in 2016.

Corruption Watch has argued in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria that the arms deal commission failed to do its job.

The anti-corruption organisation wants the court to review and set aside the findings of the inquiry that was appointed by former president Jacob Zuma in 2011 to investigate alleged corruption in the multibillion-rand arms procurement deal in 1999.

The court application by Corruption Watch and Right2know comes after Judge Willie Seriti, who headed the commission, exonerated politicians of wrongdoing when he released his report in 2016.

Eastern Cape Premier denies splurging R450 000 taxpayers money on home renovations that was commissioned from the cash-strapped Mbizana Municipality

Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane has vehemently denied having any involvement in the embezzlement of R450 000 from the embattled Mbizana Municipality.

As reported by SABC News, at the time Mabuyane was elected as the Premier of Eastern Cape, he had yet to answer to questions around why R450 000, allegedly extracted from R1.1-million that was commissioned from the municipality for no work done, went towards paying for renovations of his home in Bunkers Hill, East London.

Where did Oscar Mabuyane get money to renovate his home?
Earlier in the year, reports came out revealing that, for the most part, corruption and maladministration were the chief contributors to the downfall of the Mbizana Municipality.

A forensic investigation was launched to look into how the municipality found itself under financial administration.

Corruption Watch researchers in Durban:- Blatant bribes for driver’s licences

Durban – A wink, a nod and a couple of thousand rands will buy a driver’s license – it’s no secret, even though it has a major impact when it comes to counting the loss of lives on South Africa’s roads.

The Independent on Saturday team went undercover to investigate what a Corruption Watch researcher said was standard practice to pay a bribe, and prospective drivers were almost guaranteed to fail if they could not or were unwilling to pay.

The team found blatant bribery at three KZN RTI (Road Traffic Inspectorate) centres.

Responding yesterday, “gravely concerned,” Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s undertaking to fight corruption at all levels, such illegal activity would “not be tolerated in any way, shape or form”.

SA taxpayers to fund yet another government bailout – Cash-strapped SAA requests R4bn to survive current financial year after years of mismanagement and corruption

South African Airways (SAA) appointed its head of operations as acting chief executive on Friday and said it needs R4-billion from the government to survive the current financial year and allow it to renegotiate loan terms with banks.

Zukisa Ramasia becomes interim CEO after Vuyani Jarana unexpectedly resigned on Sunday, after less than two years in the job, saying his turnaround strategy for the loss-making airline was being undermined by a lack of state funding and too much bureaucracy.

SAA has not made a profit since 2011 and Jacana launched a five-year turnaround plan that includes slashing costs and cancelling unprofitable routes, requiring around R21.7-billion in cash injections from the government.

“We are currently operating at a loss and that is the background to the request we’ve made for R4-billion of support for the current financial year,” board member Martin Kingston told a news briefing.

Kusile under financial crossfire – R36 billion owed for alleged arrears for semi-completed power station with design flaws

Kusile, as one of the two new Eskom mega power stations that is supposed to deliver to supply sustained electrical power for the country, is apparently caught up in financial crossfire.

In addition to the enormous escalation of construction costs due to mismanagement and corruption, contractors at the semi-completed power station claims amid design defects a combined R36 billion in total for alleged arrears.

The power station that was supposed to have been completed by 2014 still only has one unit commercially in operation. The total construction cost to date is estimated at R161 billion.

SA liquidations increase by over 53% – economy’s poor performance is attributed to power supply, violence conditions, strikes, corruption, etc.

While the ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa made huge promises of foreign investors and many jobs for the 28% who are looking for jobs and not getting, new setbacks are coming to the surface.

The number of liquidations recorded in South Africa has increased by 50% during April this year, indicating the real state of the country.

Companies are losing the battle one after another due to the rough condition in the country.

Economists point out that a country’s growth is closely linked to power supply, violence, strikes, corruption, and a number of other factors.

Liquidations increased by just over 53% while in February and March it was less than 10% compared to previous periods.

What makes this remarkable is that the largest number of businesses voluntarily went into liquidation, which means there is no confidence in the business that the country’s economy will improve.

Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s expertise questioned with her report on Vrede Dairy Farm project and action to rather protect perpetrators than prosecute them

The South African Public Protector appointed by Jacob Zuma after the exit of Madonsela’s actions is so suspicious that political experts question her expertise in office.

This follows after the High Court in Pretoria declared that the Public Protector’s report on the Vrede Dairy Farm project is unconstitutional and invalid.

Opinion polls believe that the Public Protector’s report has been drafted to provide protection to the perpetrators, and the Zuma regime wants to be obedient instead of capturing a professional finding on paper.

More than R200 million of taxpayers’ money was used to fund the “black empowerment project”, which was eventually identified as another corruption project.

Some of the money was allegedly paid over to the controversial Guptas, and the dairy farm workers did not receive a single cent.

Eskom Corruption being ‘rewarded’ with 15.63% tariff increase – SA consumers now have to suffer but those responsible for the corruption and maladministration “continue to roam free” without any consequences for the actions

Municipalities across SA will now face a 15.63% tariff increase from Eskom, approved by Nersa. Mayor Herman Mashaba on Tuesday issued a statement in which he claims the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has rewarded corruption at Eskom with a 15.63% increase in tariffs.

“The City has noted the disappointing correspondence from Nersa, indicating that municipalities across South Africa will now face a 15.63% tariff increase from Eskom following continued tariff negotiations between Eskom and the energy regulator,” said Mashaba.

“This is after Nersa had initially granted Eskom a hike of 9.41%, 8.1% and 5.2% for the next three financial years, below Eskom’s application for a 17.1 % hike for 2019/20, 15.4% for 2020/21 and 15.5% for 2021/22.”

Mashaba said the Nersa decision means that the City of Johannesburg, like many other municipalities, “will be forced” to increase tariffs on electricity.

eThekwini mayor Zandile, ally of former president Jacob Zuma, in hot water over R25 million toilet scam

eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede will be appearing in the regional commercial crimes court in Durban on Tuesday, in what is expected to become one of the most high-profile corruption cases in recent years.

Gumede is expected to be handing herself over to the Hawks, following which she will be appearing in court on a string of corruption-related charges.

City Press understands that Gumede (58) will be appearing alongside senior municipal councillor Mondli Mthembu on charges including money laundering, corruption and racketeering.

“She will then apply for bail which the state is not intending to oppose,” said a senior law enforcement official privy to the details.

Another senior law enforcement official told City Press this evening: “It is finally happening. I am told that they are bringing a big team of heavy-hitting lawyers. It had all been planned to happen quietly without the knowledge of the media.”

Nedbank pockets R780m from the parastatal Transnet -Nedbank is the latest in a long list of private sector companies to be implicated in state capture

The banking sector will be rocked by allegations of corruption this week, when Transnet tells the commission of inquiry into state capture about Nedbank’s involvement in a controversial deal which saw the bank pocket R780 million from the parastatal.

This week, Transnet’s acting chief executive, Mohammed Mahomedy, will appear before the state capture inquiry where he will detail how Nedbank made R780 million after changing the interest rate terms of a multibillion-rand loan three days after making the loan.

Mahomedy replaced Tau Morwe, whose six-month contract was not renewed when it expired early this month. Nedbank is the latest in a long list of private sector companies to be implicated in state capture.

Mahomedy’s statement shows that in August 2014, Transnet started negotiations for a R12 billion syndicated loan to finance the acquisition of the controversial 1 064 locomotives.

Mzansi has hit rock bottom and the ANC GOVERNMENT is the cause of this all.

Ok so Municipalities cannot pay salaries, SABC cannot pay salaries and is bankrupt, Denel cannot pay salaries and is bankrupt, Transnet is bankrupt, SARS is running in a minus, SAA cannot pay salaries and is bankrupt, Escom is Bankrupt, Telkom is also going down, SANDF has no more funds and is in shambles, our Government Hospitals don’t even have money for bedding and our whole health system has collapsed, our police force don’t even have vehicles to go out to a crime scene and most of police officers are the actual criminals.

Nearly every minister in the ANC Government has been involved in corruption , bribery and mismanagement of taxpayers funds. Unemployment is the highest it’s ever been in the history of our country, our education dept has run out of funds and crime is out of control.

Ace Magashule – drowning in corruption allegations already – made a rod for his own back on the campaign trail this weekend, after a sly “donation” to a voter.

The campaign trail can be a war zone sometimes. Even an act of supposed generosity can backfire badly, as Ace Magashule has found out this weekend. The ANC Secretary-General – who was desperate for a PR victory after a bruising week – did nothing to help his cause in the Western Cape.
