When Finance Minister Tito Mboweni on Tuesday told MPs government would have to review its funding requirements, he put into financial jargon that, actually, South Africa’s running out of money. And Eskom is to blame, in the main.

Bluntly put, Tuesday’s Special Appropriation Bill is scraping together R59-billion extra for Eskom — that’s in addition to the R23-billion a year already announced in February’s Budget — to ensure the power utility keeps its lights on.

The bailout timing is crucial — a week to the day before Eskom releases its financial results. Twice delayed already, it’s now on public record the power utility wasn’t a going concern; effectively bankrupt, it can’t meet its obligations under its own steam. The Special Appropriation Bill’s proposed R59-billion bailout over two years has ensured the auditors, on the back of such an official guarantee, can now sign off on the Eskom financials.

Cyber crooks try to hold Johannesburg’s City Power to ransom after a malicious program found its way on to the computer system and network

After a cyber-attack that debilitated its servers, Johannesburg’s City Power says it has successfully restored electricity vending within hours of the security breach being identified.

Some residents of Johannesburg were left in the dark as a ransomware attack took out the City’s power servers, preventing residents from being able to purchase and upload electricity units.

The attack was identified in the early hours of Thursday 25 July, according to spokesperson Isaac Mangena. Starting at 8.30am on the 25th, City Power’s official Twitter account, @CityPowerJHB, issued a series of tweets explaining the situation.

According to Adam Oxford, a freelance technology journalist, “Ransomware is a type of cyber attack in which a malicious program finds its way on to a computer system or network, and the damaging payload of that program will be to destroy data or encrypt it to the point where it is irretrievable.”

One Of The Four Suspects in van der Berg #FarmMurder Was Out On Bail When He Attacked and Murdered Van der Berg Couple Near Boshof!

Japie and Emma were attacked on April the 28th, 2018 and were forced into the house where Emma was also assaulted. They were then 75 and 74 years old respectively.

The Van der Berg couple, according to information, were murdered on a farm outside Boshof a week past Friday with their own firearms.

Two firearms apparently found under a bed of one of the alleged murderers belonged to the murdered couple.

One of the four men who appeared in court in Boshof in connection with the murders of Sakkie (67) and Ina van der Berg, 62, was out on bail for another farm attack outside Hertzogville at the time of the murders.

A worker called for help and five men, were arrested.

SA economy taking a dip since all the big guns are pulling out of South Africa caused by political climate – Whirlpool is the next one out taking nearly R1 billion hit in the process

Appliance maker Whirlpool South Africa, which is also responsible for the Indesit, Ariston, and KIC brands in South Africa, has been sold.

On Tuesday the local operation confirmed an agreement had been entered into at the end of June, and said it expects the sale to close in the third quarter – after its parent company warned shareholders how much its exit from South Africa will cost.

In reporting its second quarter financial results, the New York listed Whirlpool Corporation said selling its South African operations would come with a $35 million write-down of assets, and a $33 million “cumulative foreign currency translation adjustments”, a total equivalent to a little under R950 million.

The parent company provided no further details on the transaction.

Rand value expected to crash in next 12 months – No doubt that ANC-regime is responsible for this predicament

The South African rand lost 30% of its value within 12 months after the start of each of the last four US rate-cutting cycles and 40% of its value within 15 months.

The start of a US rate-cutting cycle, combined with other global conditions, could have serious implications for the rand, says currency strategist at Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), John Cairns.

Speaking to 702, Cairns said that the last four times the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates, the rand weakened significantly within the following 12 months.

“On average the rand weakened 30% in the first year after the Fed cuts in the last full cycle,” he said. “This is ominous as the Fed is about to cut rates at the end of this month.”

Cairns said that the Fed cuts alone are positive for the rand as it encourages risk-taking and improves the country’s yield differential. This is part of why the rand has strengthened from R15/dollar to under R14/dollar, he said.

The ANC’s R80 million failure – 13 ‘unused’ Prasa trains, manufactured by the Spanish company under the hammer, because it’s too big for SA rail specifications

Thirteen locomotives ordered by Prasa from Spanish manufacturer Vossloh Espana will be auctioned to the highest bidder in early September without any of the locomotives being used by Prasa.

Already in 2015, the locomotives were found to be too large for South African rail specifications. More than R80 million has been channeled to Maria Gomes, an Angolan businesswoman, who has connections with Jacob Zuma and George Sabelo, the lawyer who has Zuma and his family as friends.

Strange that the new locomotives have traveled as much as 10,000 km, yet purchased as new.

Judge EJ Francis strongly condemned the agreement between Swiambo and Prasa’s top management as corrupt. The outstanding debt and possible recovery of funds seems to be slim.

Leech entity Eskom, is holding the ANC hostage and demands funds or else the whole of SA will suffer without power

If there is no funding, there will be no change, and the ANC regime will be guilty party because he made the appointments in the power utility’s senior posts.

This is the opinion of a political analyst after Finance Minister Tito Mboweni announced that Eskom needed R59bn to remain operational.

The minister announced in Parliament what needs to be done to support the struggling Eskom, saying the amount of R59bn is needed.

This means that the ANC government has to transfer R26 billion this year, and R33 billion in the financial year to the “leech” entity.

The big argument is still being used to make Eskom too strong in its evil, by saying if it is not done, there will be no power in the country’s analysts.

Experts say Eskom can say they need R30bn in three years, and if not, there are no lights.

ANC-government wants to close down about 3,000 schools’ doors due to a reduction learner numbers

The Department of Basic Education is aiming to close a few thousand schools due to the reduction in student numbers.

The schools that are affected the most in the country have apparently received notice that a certain number of pupils are required to keep a school’s doors open.

The majority of schools are located in rural areas, and the Eastern Cape is most affected by the arrangement.

According to a spokesperson for the Department, a primary school should have no less than 135 pupils, and secondary schools should have more than 225 pupils.

Investigations show that about 3,000 schools are likely to be affected, meaning pupils should be enrolled elsewhere.

Rising racial tensions and an allegation of syndicates backed by government officials marked this past weekend’s ongoing illegal land invasions in the south of Johannesburg.

As land invaders accused property owners of being racist, Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Lebogang Maile said the widespread land invasions in Johannesburg South are the work of syndicates in cahoots with officials, and in some instances, police officers.

“There are syndicates who are making money out of the desperation of our people. It is alleged that the syndicate has connections and is working with some government officials and in some instances police officers. It’s a serious concern”.

Johannesburg South residents have vowed to go to war with land invaders if the government continues to allow land invaders to build shacks in the area. The threat comes on the back of widespread protests last week in Zakariyya Park, Lenasia and Ennerdale.

Five people have been arrested for allegedly stealing 30 sheep, which they loaded into a taxi in Aliwal North, Eastern Cape.

Police spokesperson Capt Ursula Roelofse said police followed up on information that the sheep were being transported in the taxi early on Friday morning.

The vehicle was stopped and the suspects arrested. Police recovered 30 sheep.

This is no small change – Bedfordview Licensing Station employee arrested for for fraudulently registering vehicles to the value of R1.2-million

A Bedfordview Licensing Department employee was arrested on July 9 for fraudulently registering vehicles to the value of R1.2-million.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said the EMPD Community Liaison and Monitoring and Evaluation Unit members had been investigating the 28-year-old man for a while before he was arrested.

He said the man registered five vehicles belonging to a bank in the name of a private individual.

“The total value of the vehicles is over R1.2-m.

“One of the vehicles is a Ford Ranger, which has been traced to Zimbabwe and exported without following procedure,” said Kgasago.

Kgasago said that two clients have registered different cases at Bedfordview Police Station against the man.

“Investigations further revealed that all the five vehicles’ files had important documents missing, with two of the illegal registrations made from stolen face-value documents,” said Kgasago.
