ANC-minister of Education wants to keep black SA children uneducated with new General Education Certificate (GEC) issued at Grade 9

The 1976 youth riots in Soweto, celebrated as “Youth Day” since 1994, resulted from the claim by the ANC that the Bantu Education Act was designed to keep black South African children uneducated so that they cannot ever rise to become more than servants and gardeners.

This week the ANC minister of Education announced that General Education Certificate (GEC)will be issued to Grade 9 learners (already having passed previous grades with a 30% requirement) to avoid too many of them failing in the Higher Grades.

In her speech at the SADTU National Congress in Johannesburg this week, she described the eleven focus areas of the 2019 to 2024 Medium-Term Strategic Framework (MTSF).

Priority 4 aims to deal “decisively with the quality and efficiency through the implementation of standardised assessments to reduce failure, repetition, and drop-out rates,” she said.

The government’s grand move to have “progressed” matric pupils write their exams over two years has bombed – only 8% passed

The results of these pupils, who were pushed into matric after failing grade 11 more than once, were disclosed to the Sunday Times by the department of basic education last week.

SA’s latest matric pass rate is 8%. It was achieved by “progressed” pupils — those pushed into grade 12 after failing grade 11 more than once — and who were given two years to write matric.

Of the 78,363 of these pupils who wrote their final school exams in November and June, 6,320 passed.

Education experts who spoke to the Sunday Times this week said the pupils had been set up for failure because the plan was based on an incorrect assumption that a lowered workload would lead to better results.

ANC-government wants to close down about 3,000 schools’ doors due to a reduction learner numbers

The Department of Basic Education is aiming to close a few thousand schools due to the reduction in student numbers.

The schools that are affected the most in the country have apparently received notice that a certain number of pupils are required to keep a school’s doors open.

The majority of schools are located in rural areas, and the Eastern Cape is most affected by the arrangement.

According to a spokesperson for the Department, a primary school should have no less than 135 pupils, and secondary schools should have more than 225 pupils.

Investigations show that about 3,000 schools are likely to be affected, meaning pupils should be enrolled elsewhere.

Public schools may no longer turn away learners due to age , SA pupils can now theoretically still sit at school desks even if they are 25-years old

In the previous dispensation, children, or scholars, completed their school career when they reached the age of 18 or 19.

With the Department of Basic Education’s policy that no learner may stay in a standard or grade for more than two years, this means that if a learner enters the secondary school phase by the age of fifteen, he or she can still theoretically sit at school benches at the age of 25. Schools were instructed this week that no learner could be kicked out because of his age.

This follows after most of the violence at schools took place. A 19-year-old Grade 11 pupil killed a 18-year-old fellow in Grade 8 at Forest High School with a knife.

Well-known educators point out that public schools are now a dangerous place for children, and parents must realize that they are still responsible for their children’s education and safety.

Teach maths, science and IT instead of masturbation, after Department of Basic Education’s new life skill curriculum caused a stir on social media

Minister Angie Motshekga and her department should hang their heads in shame for prioritising masturbation, party president Kenneth Meshoe says.

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) said on Monday that the country’s basic education minister and her department should hang their heads in shame for prioritising the teaching of masturbation over maths, science and Information Technology.

ACDP president, reverend Kenneth Meshoe, made the statement in response to an article that appeared in the Sunday Times, which stated: “from next year textbooks from grade 4 to 12 will reflect cutting edge curricula that treats masturbation, gender nonconformity and single parent families as a mainstream.”

The article continued to state: “masturbation is normalised, and is threaded through the curricula from grade 4. It begins with self-pride, self-image, body diversity, genital differences, genital changes, and touching oneself for pleasure.”</p
