Grade 9 Certificate almost official – learners will now be able to leave school sooner and of course unemployment rate will also rise

Cyril Ramaphosa approved the proposed education policy that allows learners to leave school in grade 9.  The move will allow learners to obtain a Grade 9 certificate and enter the workforce.

Angie Motshekga criticized her proposal for her fierce criticism but it now becomes official ANC policy. According to Ramaphosa, the move will focus on integrating learners sooner into the country’s workforce and the country’s economy.

With a matric certificate already worth little more than the paper on which it is printed, the step should be seen as an attempt to “improve” matric results due to a large number of learners leaving school at an early age.

Educators point out that the matrices do not find work, and that the Grade 9 pupils that leave school will increase the unemployment rate that will affect t SA to be graded more quickly to junk status in the economic field.

38,9% Is The ‘Real’ Matric Pass Rate, According To The DA

The DA has claimed that the matric pass rate is incorrect, just after the announcement of the 2019 results by Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga’s bluff saying that her announcement of 81.3% for the 2019 matric pass rate is incorrect and the ‘real’ pass rate is in fact 38.9%.

In the statement, the DA congratulated each learner who passed the NSC examination, however had this to say:

“Whilst Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and the Department of Education are celebrating an all-time high matric pass rate of 81.3%, the Democratic Alliance can reveal that the real pass rate is in fact 38.9%.”

Why a pass rate of 38.9%?

DA Minister of Basic Education, Nomsa Marchesi explained that in 2017, a total of 1 052 080 learners were enrolled in grade 10, yet only 409 906 learners eventually passed matric last year.

The government are trying to kill rumours and denies that the minimum pass requirements for math for gr. 7 to gr. 9 are reduced to 20%. However, education unions believe this is not the biggest concern facing this sector at present.

Lesufi stirring havoc! Gauteng Department of Education might place Afrikaans learners in township schools

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) will now introduce English and Afrikaans as the language of teaching and learning in township schools, in an effort to accommodate displaced learners in this province.

This is a statement by the GDE on Tuesday. According to this, the department will help schools that received few enrollments for 2020 to appoint qualified teachers who can teach in English and Afrikaans. These schools are mostly located in townships and some have received only 16 applications for gr. 1- or gr. 8 learners to attend school here next year.

The civil rights organization AfriForum will now demand in a letter written to the Gauteng Prime Minister and ask that the Education MEC in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, resign. “We will also file criminal charges for corruption and malpractice within the GDE under the leadership of Lesufi,” said Carien Bloem, AfriForum’s education coordinator. The government’s grand move to have “progressed” matric pupils write their exams over two years has bombed – only 8% passed

The results of these pupils, who were pushed into matric after failing grade 11 more than once, were disclosed to the Sunday Times by the department of basic education last week.

SA’s latest matric pass rate is 8%. It was achieved by “progressed” pupils — those pushed into grade 12 after failing grade 11 more than once — and who were given two years to write matric.

Of the 78,363 of these pupils who wrote their final school exams in November and June, 6,320 passed.

Education experts who spoke to the Sunday Times this week said the pupils had been set up for failure because the plan was based on an incorrect assumption that a lowered workload would lead to better results.

Over 250,000 Undocumented Pupils In Gauteng Schools – most of them migrants from neighbouring countries

JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi on Wednesday said provincial schools were catering for more than 250,000 undocumented pupils.

Lesufi made the comment as he delivered his submissions before the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) inquiry looking into service delivery problems in Alexandra.

The hearing was launched following protests over a lack of services in the township.

The investigation was testing a range of matters including the root causes of the Alex shut down earlier this year and possible maladministration in the controversial multimillion-rand Alex Renewal Project.

In his oral submission, Lesufi revealed how the admissions of non-documented learners affected his department’s budget.

“It’s R18,000 per learner, that is the amount that we spend. So, if you check 250,000 [learners] and times that by R18,000, that is the amount of money that we are losing,” he said.

ANC-government wants to close down about 3,000 schools’ doors due to a reduction learner numbers

The Department of Basic Education is aiming to close a few thousand schools due to the reduction in student numbers.

The schools that are affected the most in the country have apparently received notice that a certain number of pupils are required to keep a school’s doors open.

The majority of schools are located in rural areas, and the Eastern Cape is most affected by the arrangement.

According to a spokesperson for the Department, a primary school should have no less than 135 pupils, and secondary schools should have more than 225 pupils.

Investigations show that about 3,000 schools are likely to be affected, meaning pupils should be enrolled elsewhere.

Public schools may no longer turn away learners due to age , SA pupils can now theoretically still sit at school desks even if they are 25-years old

In the previous dispensation, children, or scholars, completed their school career when they reached the age of 18 or 19.

With the Department of Basic Education’s policy that no learner may stay in a standard or grade for more than two years, this means that if a learner enters the secondary school phase by the age of fifteen, he or she can still theoretically sit at school benches at the age of 25. Schools were instructed this week that no learner could be kicked out because of his age.

This follows after most of the violence at schools took place. A 19-year-old Grade 11 pupil killed a 18-year-old fellow in Grade 8 at Forest High School with a knife.

Well-known educators point out that public schools are now a dangerous place for children, and parents must realize that they are still responsible for their children’s education and safety.

Online admission of learners suspended due to the current system that seems to be too complicated for a certain part of the population

The Department of Education suspended its online registration system for parents until May 20 because the current system is apparently too complicated for some of the population.

A simplified system will be made available after May 20, in which a step by step will be guide will be available to lead through application process.

The arrangement follows after complaints have been raised that everyone does not understand how to fill in the form online that applies to children in Grade 1 as well as Grade 8 learners’ admission in 2020 school year.

Applications must be submitted online and will be allowed until 22 July 2019 at 24:00.

NSFAS-grants stand risk to be abused by students after it came public that allowances will now be paid directly into students accounts instead of using third parties

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will pay allowances directly to students instead of using third parties.

The scheme confirmed that it would do away with the voucher system, known as “Sbux” administered by third parties, a move welcomed by the SA Union of Students (SAUS).

NSFAS spokesperson Kagisho Mamabolo said the scheme would disburse funds only in cash to students and universities and TVET colleges, through approved financial institutions.

“NSFAS wants to eradicate the voucher system that compromises choices for our students and limits their financial planning,” Mamabolo said, adding that the planned method would also eliminate payments through SMS and cellphone mechanism which were open to fraud and abuse.

NSFAS came under pressure from the Minister of Higher Education and Training Naledi Pandor, last year after the government’s university and college students funding model grappled with disbursing of money
