Urban municipalities’ power-shock – Prepaid electricity charges cause huge uproar from consumers

The City Council of Johannesburg quietly withdrew the new prepaid electricity rate charged to consumers.

The application of the municipal levy came as a surprise because it was not included in the proposed budget of the CityPower’s tariff document released in March.

The R200 levy was quietly withdrawn and was not charged against consumers on July 1, and would initially be part of the tariff, but could also be seen as an illegal act.

In Pretoria, the city council apparently illegally increased their electricity tariffs without any consent, causing them to defend their actions in court.

E-toll fight not yet finalized – ANC regime divided over controversial system, billion rands of outstanding debt not yet recovered

The battle between the big municipalities of Pretoria and Johannesburg against the ANC government are still ongoing.

With Minister Tito Mboweni’s view that e-toll has come to stay, and that consumers have to pay their tolls, it is clear that the ANC is still deeply divided on the desirability of the controversial system or not.

Mayors say the e-toll is not needed for Gauteng, and should be discontinued, but experts say the expensive system will not be removed with a yes so easily.

The biggest opponent is Outa, who is positive of winning the battle with the divisions in the ANC, especially not to collect billions of rand of outstanding debt

The argument that a R0-10 fuel levy will ensure much more revenue to maintain roads is supported by a large proportion of governments’ parliamentarians.

Opinion polls believe the e-toll system was chosen because it was accompanied by a corruption bribe, but no evidence could be found.

Eskom now in bed with MultiChoice – Current CEO of bankrupt National Power Supplier that is plagued by corruption, fraud and money laundering, now on board of pay channel

Eskom is subject to fraud, money laundering, illegal tender awards and theft that results in the Chief Executive Officer of the entity or being dismissed or being prosecuted for all kinds of underhand operations.

The “life span” of a CEO at Eskom is not very long. Those who are still trying to get things right are resigning very quickly since workload, red tape and interference of councilors and politicians.

Now MultiChoice’s current CEO of Eskom sits at on their board. Add to this his chairmanship of Anheuser-Busch InBev Africa council, Sun International and the Casino Association of SA.

Businessmen ask when will he get time to get Eskom up, and what is MultiChoice’s motivation for his appointment?

Energy Corporation chairman step down after a mere 7 months – just another failed SOE that is run with incompetence

The chairman of the board of directors of South Africa’s Nuclear Energy Corporation, Rob Adam, filed his resignation after only seven months.

The Corporation is struggling to survive because of financial reasons than just another state-controlled entity that is apparently run with incompetence.

The entity also undergoes a so-called restructuring that will require some 400 workers to be retrenched.

The proposed retrenchments left the Nehawu union unhappy and a power struggle is in progress between the two institutions.

Adam apparently indicated that he resigned because of the demanding task on the chair’s shoulders.

It seems that the constant liaison with ministers, staff, councilors and, moreover, a disgruntled union, made Adam decide to find greener pastures.

Cyber crooks hacked SA Aviation, information communication technology systems not operational

The SA Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is an independent body that manages, promotes, promotes, supports and applies the safety and security of the civil aviation industry.

According to the SACAA website, the information communication technology systems were not found to have operated normally on July 1.

It’s totally ridiculous, at least better than the new Life Orientation curriculum – New school subjects to be introduced after the ANC regime commited itself to “revolutionizing skills”

ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that the government is committed to “revolution in skills”.

This is done to train people who will produce “human capital”. According to the president, the following subjects will be introduced to schools.

Data Science, Ledger Technology and Analysis, Additives Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Quantum Technology and Cryptography.

Cryptography is a very inefficient database system to make the Bitcoin puzzle work. Artificial intelligence is described as machine intelligence. How, who and when to introduce the subjects is not clear.

Doubts on SA’s legal system standards – pass rate in June 2019 exams was mere 20%

After the recent Deed Examinations of the Legal Practice Council, the hysteria started again.

The LSSA (Law Society of SA) immediately expressed concern about the deed “landscape” that has been transformed and states that there are “gatekeepers” that keep the area “white”.

The pass rate in the June 2019 exams was 20%, slightly lower than in the past decade. Now suddenly the two papers are required to be written on different days and not on one day.

The theory must be examined first and then the practical. Currently, candidates must obtain an average of 50% for the two papers and if they fail, both papers must be rewritten.

The request is now that candidates should retain credits for 5 years. The Board of Examiners must be enlarged and requirements for examiners must be reduced.

All papers must also be written in English only. The LSSA will now seek mentors to assist candidates in their preparatio

SANDF MAJOR GENERAL ALLEGEDLY AWARDED HIS WIFE TENDER WORTH R210M

JOHANNESBURG – The South African National Defence Force (Sandf) is reportedly investigating a major general for allegedly awarding defence tender contracts to his spouse worth R210 million.

The Sunday Times reported the probe is looking into suspected fraud and corruption in contracts awarded by army boss Noel Ndhlovu to his wife’s company.

The newspaper claimed the investigation started when Sandf examined some of the tenders secured by Nomsa Ntsomdwana Ndhlovu.

In one tender for transport and military equipment, the paper said rival bidders were later revealed to be a taxi business, stationary supplier which claim to have no knowledge about any Sandf tender.

Ndhlovu is also accused of submitting false document and forging a signature.

The paper reported that she was awarded another tended this year worth R24 million to transport military equipment for services not rendered.

Violent protest action on N2 at Plettenberg Bay leaves woman seriously injured and fighting for her life when a brick was thrown through vehicle’s passenger-side window

A 56-year old woman from Port Elizabeth is fighting for her life in the George Medi-Clinic in the Southern Cape, after suffering severe head injuries during violent protest action on the N-2 at Plettenberg Bay on Wednesday.

Haydee de Doncker and her husband were travelling back home from their vacation in Gouritsmond when a brick was thrown through the passenger-side window. Her daughter, Erin Burns, says she suffered facial fractures and a serious head injury. Burns says they can’t understand why violence must always be the answer, when people cannot get what they want.

“They’re protesting for service delivery, housing and what-not, that has nothing to do with the innocent people that are law-abiding and are just trying to make their way home. To go through such a traumatic experience, and for what? What did they achieve? Violence is never the answer.”

ANC-regime stretching public finances by issuing bailouts to keep bankrupt SEO’s afloat – Denel requests a R2.8bn bailout from government

South Africa’s state arms company, Denel as requested a R2.8-billion ($200-million) bailout from government.

Denel was once part of the country’s thriving defence industry but like many other state owned entities was mismanaged and affected by corruption during the former president Jacob Zuma years which lead to a financial crisis.

CEO Danie du Toit was appointed late in 2018 to oversee a turnaround plan for the company.

Du Toit says that the Denel is progressing well and he expects around R30-billion worth of deals to come into affect over the next two years but in order to achieve this the company requires a cash injection to help alleviate liquidity constraints.

Denel manufactures military equipment such as armoured vehicles, missiles, attack helicopters and ammunition for the South African armed forces as well as for export.

The CEO is hoping to receive the funds by September or October.
