DStv customers, check your bills: “Thousands” have been overcharged for September

A number of DStv subscribers reported being overcharged on their monthly bills by up to R1 000 in September. And the reason why has infuriated customers.

If it’s not Steve Hofmeyr and his mates smashing up decoders, then DStv are pretty good at doing damage to themselves. The television network is facing an almighty backlash, and a number of subscribers reported being overcharged for their service in the month of September: Some users have claimed they were hit by a R1 000 surcharge.

DStv bills – are you being overcharged?

Other reported amounts are as little as R20, with many complaints raised about bills that were R150 – R250 over the odds. It’s caused something of a stir online, with a handful of South African threatening to boycott the organisation over their controversial billing procedure.

MultiChoice has informed its DStv Select subscribers that it will discontinue this service on 29 October 2019 and move them to DStv Family.

“DStv is continuously reviewing its content line-up, packaging structure and pricing to ensure that customers have access to the best fresh content at great value,” MultiChoice said.

Eskom now in bed with MultiChoice – Current CEO of bankrupt National Power Supplier that is plagued by corruption, fraud and money laundering, now on board of pay channel

Eskom is subject to fraud, money laundering, illegal tender awards and theft that results in the Chief Executive Officer of the entity or being dismissed or being prosecuted for all kinds of underhand operations.

The “life span” of a CEO at Eskom is not very long. Those who are still trying to get things right are resigning very quickly since workload, red tape and interference of councilors and politicians.

Now MultiChoice’s current CEO of Eskom sits at on their board. Add to this his chairmanship of Anheuser-Busch InBev Africa council, Sun International and the Casino Association of SA.

Businessmen ask when will he get time to get Eskom up, and what is MultiChoice’s motivation for his appointment?

These South African companies are retrenching staff in 2019 – Most probably BEE compliant as well – Unemployment has already soared to 27.5%

Multichoice has joined the bandwagon of South African companies that are cutting jobs to stay afloat in these difficult times.

Why are these South African companies retrenching staff?
The satellite network stated that, although billions of rand in returns were reported for the 2018/2019 financial year, consumer behaviour and data on their digital self-service shows that there is less of a need for that many call centre and walk-in centre agents on their roster.

This is yet another blow for South Africa’s economy, whose GDP retracted by more than 3% in the first half of the year.

While Multichoice’s decision was brought on by pressure from the impending take-over of the fourth industrial revolution, other companies have been forced into a corner with very little choice but to sacrifice a portion of its workforce to remain financially soluble.

MultiChoice plans to cut 2,194 jobs – Seems like the pay channel is losing revenue after the Ghoema and Steve Hofmyer debacle

MultiChoice may retrench over 2,000 employees in its call centres and walk-in customer service centres, according to a statement from the ICTU trade union.

ICTU spokesperson Thabang Mothelo told MyBroadband that the plan was put in place without the union being consulted, and they are convening urgent meetings to address the issue.

In a statement to media, MultiChoice said that it will enter into a consultation process with 2,194 of its employees “within Customer Care and the Walk-in Centres”.

This is part of the “strategic realignment of its customer service delivery model”, said the company.

“The realignment is a response to the changing behaviour of its customers, who are increasingly moving away from traditional voice calls and visits to Walk-in Centres and adopting new self-service and digital technologies to engage with the company.”

MultiChoice said it will make new roles available for multi-skilled employees.</p

Rumours surface that DSTV lost 23,000 subscribers with more to come after Steve Hofmeyr promised R10k to supporters who destroy their decoder

Multichoice has reportedly lost 23,000 subscribers following the ongoing fight with Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr.

An IT technician and a data analyst who works for Multichoice leaked the following information. Both of them wish to remain anonymous because they are actually rooting for Hofmeyr. “As of Friday 5:30 PM Multichoice lost over 23 000 official subscribers and more than 36 000 decoders where offline which means more cancellation might be following”.

This all started after Hofmeyr posted a video of himself cancelling the service and destroying his decoder on his facebook page.

Hofmeyr promised R10,000 to one person who records themselves destroying their decoder and in only a few hours multichoice lost of 3000 subscribers.

The singer led his fans by example when he took a video of himself canceling his subscription and then destroying his decoder (watch follow-up postings for the video content)

MultiChoice has confirmed that it will remove all content featuring Steve Hofmeyr from DStv, Showmax, and the audio channels it controls.

This follows an earlier statement from MultiChoice Group that it will not carry content that includes Hofmeyr on any of its platforms.

MultiChoice’s senior manager for corporate communications Benedict Maaga told MyBroadband this forms part of the company’s comments regarding the Ghoema Music Awards.

MultiChoice requested a music video which was nominated for a Ghoema Music Award which featured Hofmeyr to be withdrawn.

Hofmeyr’s music video, Die Land, also featured Bok van Blerk, Jay, Ruhan Du Toit, and Bobby van Jaarsveld.

MultiChoice group executive corporate affairs Joe Heshu explained that the company did not want Hofmeyr to form part of the Ghoema Music Award event, as his views are not aligned with MultiChoice’s values.
