ANC downplays the crisis of attacks and murderers of tourists in South Africa

It is shocking that the Minister of Tourism, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, has tried to downplay the attacks on and murders of tourists in South Africa as mere ‘isolated incidents’ and it is even more shocking that the Ministry of Tourism now has to make plans to combat it while combating crime is actually the police’s responsibility.

According to media reports, there have been 14 crime-related attacks since the beginning of this year just on Table Mountain alone. Over the last few years, there have been numerous incidents in which people were injured and even killed.

In the latest incident, a man from the Ukraine, Ivan Ivanov, was murdered last week while hiking at the popular East Fort above Chapman’s Peak.

The police must explain its inability to combat crime in general. Minister Kubayi-Ngubane confirmed that there is a crime-problem concerning tourists as she said that her Department is busy ‘finalising a strategy’ (EWN 5 Augustus 20

512 kg of marijuana with a street value of R12m openly transported on trailer

Eastern Cape police stopped a minibus taxi  Sunday evening on the R56 between Molteno and Dordrecht in the Eastern Cape, carrying 57 large bags of marijuana on an open trailer. The 32-year-old driver was arrested.

It is believed that the marijuana was collected in Lusikisiki and destined for the Western Cape.

According to Capt. Police spokeswoman Ursula Roelofse identified the marijuana as “skunk”, a type of marijuana that is apparently very valuable, the 512kg of marijuana seized has a street value of about R12.8m. Roelofse says the breakthrough will ” send a clear message that local authorities will not allow small towns to be used as transport routes by drug smugglers.

The raid was carried out in conjunction with Aliwal North and Queenstown Police’s crime intelligence unit, as well as the police K9 unit.

Afrikaner author, publisher and commentator Dan Roodt calls Lesufi non-‘South African’ ‘racist’

Afrikaner author, publisher and commentator Dan Roodt took to Twitter on Thursday to call out Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi on his vow that names of historical leaders, used for example in Hoërskool Hendrik Verwoerd in Tshwane, would be replaced by new ones.

The education MEC says he will take the author ‘to the cleaners’ and that he ‘will apologise’ for saying the MEC is not a South African. Roodt accused Lesufi of making “racist statements about Afrikaans and Afrikaners”.

“What right does this racist have to remove Verwoerd’s name from anything? Lesufi is isn’t even South African! (sic),” Roodt tweeted.

In a video posted on social media earlier on Thursday, Lesufi maintained that names such as Verwoerd would continue to fall until there were no names reminding South Africans of the past.

When the SABC can’t even broadcast local soccer, then you know the ANC’s national broadcaster is doomed

The SABC and South Africa’s Premier Soccer League have confirmed the national broadcaster will not show Absa Premiership matches.

As reported by News24, the new season of the Absa Premiership started today at 15:00 – with the SABC not showing the first match.

The PSL said that the nation may have to “accept that the SABC is incapable of meeting its requirements”.

It said the situation is “unacceptable going forward”.

Only in SA and probably a World First! – Prasa Train worth R50 Million was stolen in Umkomaas on Natal South Coast

A train belonging to the Passenger Rail Agency, a division of Transnet, was stolen from the Umkomaas railway depot and driven to Ilfracombe Station.

The two thieves whom stole an empty commuter train from a depot , took it on a 12km joy ride from eMkhomazi to Umgababa on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, leaving security guards shocked and embarrassed. The incident, left Prasa red-faced and investigating how the two men tricked the guards.

The two suspects allegedly drove the train all the way to Umgababa, and when it stopped they jumped out and fled into a nearby forest while being pursued by security guards.

According to an employee, who asked not to be named, the train only stopped when it lost momentum in an uphill area.
Another Prasa employee, working on the railway line at the time of the incident, expressed her shock.

In a social media post, the employee said she believed those behind the train theft were whoonga addicts.

Cash-strapped, Eskom’s top managers who earn R1,5 to R3m a year, demand pay hike since no salary increase was given

Eskom’s senior managers – who earn R1.5m to R3m a year – are taking the power utility to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) because they have not been given a salary increase in the past year.

Rapport newspaper said on Sunday that between 180 and 200 senior managers wanted a retroactive increase of 4,7% – the same as that granted to middle managers.

Deon Reyneke, deputy director of trade union Solidarity, said should senior management’s demand be implemented, it would cost the power utility an additional R200m to R300m per year.

Eskom just posted a whopping R20.7bn loss in the year to end March and is being kept afloat, in the short term, by massive government bailouts.

The latest bailout – R59bn – announced by finance minister Tito Mboweni in July, would buy the power utility another 12 to 18 months to formulate a recovery plan, Business Times reported on Sunday. This is on top of

DSTV subscribers pay annually R54 million for senior officials’ salaries – yet programs are broadcast repeatedly and service is excessively expensive

While the number of subscribers to DStv is declining in South Africa, the subscription fee increases annually to pay the high salaries of its senior officials.

Only a few of MultiChoice’s senior executives collectively earn more than R54 million a year.

The CEO, Calvo Mawela, receives R10.6 million a year and Tim Jacobs R8.4 million, but that does not include the many fringe benefits to which they are entitled.

What has not been taken into account are the stock options that the people are entitled to, which can amount to a fair amount.

A financial expert told Die Vryburger that partly explains why the TV packages of Multichoice are excessively expensive and the number of subscribers is declining.

Consumers face 80% electricity tariff hike to save Eskom from their self-inflicted mess

Eskom has announced that they will put a four-point plan in place to get out of their self inflicted mess. They will firstly obtain an 80% increase in electricity through a court order, and secondly they will unbundle the entity.

Third, Eskom will introduce savings measures. However, it is not indicated how and what savings measures will be implemented.

Meanwhile, senior officials of Eskom, who receive between R1.5 and R3 million a year in salary, have announced that they will approach the court to claim back working increases of 4.7%.

Calculations show that it will drive the bankrupt entity out of a further R200 to R300 million.

What a surprise – 38% op Police officers in Gauteng fail shooting competency tests!

With 4500 civil claims against the police in Gauteng, 139 lost service weapons and only 38% of police officials who passed their shooting competency tests, the people of Gauteng cannot trust or take the Department for Community Safety seriously.

South Africa and Gauteng are on fire. The reasons for this are infinite and call for a debate on its own. The budget allocated to the Gauteng Department for Community Safety means nothing if the officials are incompetent and if the structures are riddled with corruption.

Illegal land grabs and farm attacks are on the rise in Gauteng and the ANC government cannot offer any solutions. In Lenasia and Hekpoort, innocent people have landed in the crossfire because the ANC made opportunist yet empty promises.

The situation has become volatile in the Lenasia South region of Ennerdale in Johannesburg, as protests have engulfed major routes through to the city. It has been reported that blockades made from debris and burning tyres have caused a serious traffic nightmare for commuters on Thursday morning.

Although we’re awaiting official verification, it seems that the protests are linked to a recent spate of land invasions in Lenasia. The acts of land occupation have split the community, who also have their grievances with service delivery in the area and a rising tide of criminal activity.

Hendrik Verwoerd to be exploited for the ANC’s failure – Former prime minister will soon be smiling in and around Joburg, members of the community are asked to wipe the smile off his face by fixing ANC’s education system

Amnesty International will put up smiling faces of the former prime minister and so-called “architect of apartheid” Hendrik Verwoerd up around Johannesburg.

“The campaign urges members of the public who care about the provision of quality education to ‘sign the smile off Verwoerd’s face’ by demanding that South Africa’s leaders urgently provide all children with the decent quality, basic education that is their birthright as enshrined in the constitution. By signing the smile off Verwoerd’s face the public will add their names to a petition that calls on the government to fix the problems in education by 2021.”
