State-owned bus company seeks R350 million bailout

The state-owned bus company Northwest Transport Investments, which transports more than a million people a day, is seeking a bailout of R350 million.

The transportation of hundreds of thousands of commuters mainly in the North West and Gauteng provinces and more than 1,600 jobs are at risk due to the financial distress of parastatal Northwest Transport Investments (NTI).

The 46-year-old company – which owns Northwest Star, the Star Line, and the Atteridgeville Bus Service – has applied to the North West government (its sole shareholder) for a bailout of more than R350 million, NTI chairman, Mojalefa Nale, confirmed to Business Insider SA. The company has outstanding debts of about equal to that amount.

In August, a high court judge placed the company into provisional liquidation, after an application from Driveshaft Baleka, which is a Pretoria-based company that rebuilds and manufacturers propeller shafts.

State’s salary bill milking state coffers dry, yet Jan Van Riebeeck and whites are regularly chosen as scapegoats for ANC regime failures

The state’s salary bill is consuming money that the country needs to keep going, with regular increases while unions are demanding larger portions. Yet the private sector and white people of the country are regularly scapegoated for the country’s problems.

Everyone knows this and the government recognizes it and makes promises to act. Yet nothing good happens. The government’s salary bill currently accounts for 34% of the national budget. This means that R340 out of every R1 000 spent by the government goes towards salaries.

Salaries more than tripled from R154 billion to R518 billion in the period 2006/07 to 2018/19. Government officials earning more than R1 million a year increased from 9,600 to 29,000 during the same period.

Gauteng is in chaos following controversial Lesufi’s plans to place white children in black neighborhoods

The controversial Minister of Education in Gauteng that plans to place whites in black residential schools is a complete failure and with only four days left, many children will not know where to go on the first school day of 2020.

Although Panyaza Lesufi vehemently denies that this is his intention, educators point out that he has by no means taken into account the proven system of children going to the school closest to their place of residence.

His system of putting children online is a huge failure, and hundreds of children have not yet been placed in any school on Monday.

Nearly 9,000 scholars have yet to be notified where they will be placed, and many parents have decided to avoid the chaos and now want to put their children in CVO schools.

However, Panyaza Lesufi’s assurance that every child will be placed has led to several schools now facing overcrowding, which is putting quality education back into question.

Medupi with erection costs of R234 billion is still not functioning optimally due to poor construction and inexperienced workers

President Cyril Ramaphosa makes an official visit to the Medupi power plant in the Northern Transvaal, which, after years of construction, still does not function properly.

The ANC president apparently wants to do “inspection” at the poorly constructed power plant that fails to supply its supposed capacity.

The visit comes as the whole of Eskom is struggling because of a debt burden of R450bn that, according to economic experts, will not be completed within the next 25 years, regardless of who runs the place and how it will be unbundled.

The construction of the Medupi coal-fired power station has been criticized not only by environmentalists, but also by experts for the poor construction erected by inexperienced workers.

The power station has hit South Africa’s debt burden with a total erection cost of R234 billion, while not built well enough to deliver its full capacity.

ANC regime blows millions of rands on students to study medicine in Cuba – Costs amount to more than double the amount it would cost in SA

Allegations are being made that the ANC Free State paid more than R330,000 per student to study in Cuba to become a doctor.

This is more than double the amount it would have cost in South Africa, and the biggest problem is that the students did not graduate.

It takes six years to graduate as a doctor in Cuba, plus one year to be taken as a language course beforehand to master Spanish.

Initially, 211 students were sent to Cuba, 33 of whom soon returned to SA, but soon after, one perished in a street of the capital.

The training of doctors in Cuba differs from the training offered in South Africa, and experts warn that the doctors are not necessarily suitable for the service expected of doctors.

Political chaos reigns in Gauteng over mayor’s office – DA and EFF in battle, IFP might walk away in victory

A political confusion is playing out in Johannesburg and Pretoria with the far left DA still trying to control the city council in both cities.

Eventually, they can become the biggest losers because of their hand around the neck politics with the radicals in the Red Brigade.

In Johannesburg, there is currently a battle going on between the DA and the Red Brigade over the mayor’s office, which now poses the possibility that the IFP will triumph in this sage while the other two are fighting.

Doubt also exists about the DA and its Red partner’s unity in Pretoria while the first sounds are heard of the Reds claiming the mayor’s office because Zille is now back in the DA.

The possibility of a motion of no confidence in the DA could also sink the ship, says political observers in Pretoria.

Head of SASSA under investigation after being accused of abusing his power for financial gain

Accusations are made that Themba Matlou, who heads the Social Security Agency (Sassa) in the Central Transvaal, used his office to campaign for a provincial position in the ANC.

Allegations are also being made that he used the state’s resources and finances for the campaign, and the Public Protector will now investigate the allegations.

He is also accused of abusing his power as chief officer by harming people who disagree with his views.

It is not known who filed the complaint with the Public Protector’s office on November 5, but the OB office apparently wrote a letter to obtain further information on the charges.

The complainant claims that Themba Matlou also approved that transport and hotel accommodation be paid for one of his “loved ones”.

R84 million Free State Cuban Technical Advisers Program died a sudden death without solving the “water problem”

The Secretary-General of the ANC, and former Prime Minister of the Free State, Ace Magashule’s plan to bring Cuban engineers to South Africa to solve the Free State’s “water problems”, then wasted millions of Rand.

The so-called Cuban engineers were welcomed with a huge ceremony when they came here from Cuba for four years.

Of the 37 Cubans, who spent them as engineers, only three remain in the Free State.

Mgasjule’s impressive “Free State Cuban Technical Advisers Program, which cost taxpayers more than R84 million, then died, like so many other projects, in sudden death without the” water problem “being solved.

The eminent engineers, whose qualifications are not recognized in South Africa, also had to see that service delivery in the Free State municipalities was increased, could not make do with the ANC workers, and no positive results were achieved.

27 top black executives were asked to be Eskom CEO – They all said no

While the government has been criticised for selecting a white executive as Eskom CEO, a new report from the Sunday Times states that 27 black executives were offered the position first.

They all declined.

The report stated that Eskom created a list of the executives it would like for the role of CEO and hired a recruitment agency to contact them.

“All of them said no. A lot of black executives don’t want anything to do with state-owned entities,” a government source told the newspaper.

This was due to the expected political interference and the fact that state-owned enterprises have “ruined a lot of careers and expectations”.

This list reportedly included Eskom board members Nelisiwe Magubane and Sifiso Dabengwa.

Following the lack of interest from these executives, it was announced that Nampak CEO Andre de Ruyter would take the position at the head of Eskom.

Vandals tear R6.6m car wash apart, Tshwane spokesperson blames the weather

A multimillion-rand car wash project owned by the city of Tshwane which was meant to create jobs for the youth of Mamelodi and invigorate the economy of the township, has descended into dilapidation.

SowetanLIVE reported that the Reitiretse integrated vehicle washing facility in Mamelodi west has been stripped by criminals, before it even opened its doors.

The R6.6m facility now looks a far cry from the day it was launched amid fanfare in November 2015.

When Sowetan visited the facility on Thursday, the structures had lost their roofs and door frames, while the toilet block has been stripped of the toilet seats and basins. The windows and other fittings had been vandalised.

Reitiretse was launched by former Tshwane mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa and Gauteng premier David Makhura. At the time, the car wash premises included a fully equipped laundromat and a fully equipped hair salon.

Elderly farmer of North West senselessly murder by 5 barbarians – When will the brutality against white farmers stop?

An elderly man, 67, was stabbed to death in a sheepfold on his farm Leeufontein, Wolmaransstad on Sunday, his wife, 66, was severely assaulted and taken to hospital.

According to Col. Adele MyburghtThe province’s police spokesperson  said five suspects arrived at the farm around 5:30 pm and told the couple they wanted to buy sheep.

“The suspects, three men and two women, went to the kraal with the couple to choose sheep. They were then apparently overpowered by the suspects. Some of the suspects took the woman home and insisted on the safe of the safe, while the others tied the man in the kraal, ”says Myburgh.

The couple’s son, 43, was apparently in another kraal when he saw the suspects running.

He found his father’s body in the sheepfold.

Myburgh says it is not yet known if the suspects stole anything, but a case of murder and farm attack has been opened.

No one has been arrested yet.

Denel’s huge contract worth billions of Rand halted after dispute over inspection arises – How long will the cash-strapped SEO remain standing?

South Africa has blocked Denel’s huge contract worth billions of Rand. The contracts, the largest of which are for weapons in the two countries, Saudi Arabia, and the other in the United Arab Emirates, have been blocked and could eventually be canceled by the buyers.

South African manufacturer Denel, which, like many other state entities, is currently struggling to keep its head above water, can hardly afford to lose the giant orders because a dispute over inspection has arisen.

Informed sources point out that this could also mean that thousands of jobs could be jeopardized by the struggling armaments manufacturer.

The inspection dispute apparently revolves around a clause in the export documents that requires foreign customers not to transfer weapons to third-party institutions or countries.
