N1 horror: Paarl teacher killed by large rock thrown at her car

Police in Paarl are on the hunt for the senseless crooks who threw a large rock at an N1 motorist in Paarl. Michele Pietersen died instantly on-impact.

An utterly devastating development has reached us from the Western Cape on Thursday. Michele Pietersen, a teacher from Paarl, was killed when thugs threw a large rock at her car while she was travelling on the N1 outbound.

The retired educator was travelling in the vehicle with her husband. They were approaching Simonsvlei at around 2:00 this morning. Their journey was brought to a tragic halt when the rock smashed through the windscreen and hit the driver. Michele’s injuries were severe, and it’s understood she died instantly.

She used to work for the New Orleans Secondary School in Paarl. Her former employers described Michele as a “beloved friend and teacher”. The school released a statement on Thursday, sharing their deepest condolences:

80% of Gauteng motorists refuse to pay tolls – This ANC-initiative has been a disaster since onset

The Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, has come to the fore with his negotiations on the existence of the controversial e-toll in the Central Transvaal.

He held discussions with Outa, the AA agency, and several union leaders to get views and views on the matter.

Mbalula later told the media that the government is currently strongly considering the possibility of waiving the e-toll due to the long-standing resistance that causes it to operate at a total loss as 80% of motorists refuse tolls to pay.

To date, the government has been reluctant to comply with the demands and has even offered to reduce the toll tariff by 70%, but this has been rejected by numerous agencies.

ANC regime’s promise to stop transit robberies yields no visible results – SA roads plunged into chaos with ongoing transit robberies, numerous busy routes closed for hours

The N2 at Cape Town was the scene of a transit robbery during the late-night hours of Monday and caused the N2 to close as a crime scene.

Motorists had to use alternative routes to reach workplaces as the route was closed for hours.

In Bloemfontein, a G4S transit wagon was blown up in an explosion when more than 12 attackers led the wagon into a trap. An unknown amount was robbed while two guards were wounded. Some of the attackers fired on a police helicopter that arrived at the scene.

The government’s promise that the robberies will be halted has not produced any visible results to date.

Petrol increases by 11 cents and diesel by 25 cents per liter

Motorists will have to pay more from today to fill their car’s tank. The main reason for the increase is due to the weakening of the Rand and informed observers believe the trend could also be expected in October.

Petrol’s price rises by 11 cents per liter, and diesel by 25 cents per liter.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Energy, Gwede Mantashe, saying the price of domestic paraffin is increasing by 24 cents a liter.

Statistics show that 16 325 vehicle hijackings were reported between March and April 2019 – Gauteng is still SA’s hijacking capital, with 23 cars taken per day

Latest statistics released by the SAPS have shown that 16 325 vehicle hijackings were reported between March and April 2019, with the bulk of these incidents occurring in Gauteng.

It has the highest number of reported hijackings per day compared to any region in the country, with 23 incidents a day.

This is followed by KwaZulu-Natal with seven per day, the Western Cape with six a day, Mpumalanga and Limpopo with two a day, and North West, Free State and Northern Cape with one a day each.

The figures reflect that at least one motorist is hijacked every 32 minutes in the country, with most hijackings occurring in home driveways.

Private security companies in Gauteng have also revealed that hijackings have become increasingly violent.

Fidelity ADT, which has partnered with the National Hijack Prevention Academy (NHPA), has seen an increase in violent hijackings in Gauteng.

This is not a drill: The petrol price forecast for July has arrived, and a substantial drop is on the cards for South Africa’s long-suffering motorists

The spirit of Christmas seems to be returning to South Africa: Some six months after recording our last decrease in the petrol price, July looks like it will give road users in Mzansi the gift they’ve been waiting for.

How much cheaper with the petrol price be in July?
The Central Energy Fund have released their data for the per-litre price forecast of both petrol and diesel. Each fuel looks set to fall in cost, with a reduction of almost R1 p/l (well, 90 cents p/l, to be precise) on the cards for petrol.

Diesel is also on course for a similarly-cheery result next month, with just over 70c-per-litre predicted to come off the current price. Even another moderate rise would have likely broken a few unwanted records in SA, but the experts now believe that motorists will have to fork out less to fill up their vehicles in a few weeks’ time.

N3 Highway between Gauteng and KZN dangerous at night, be vigilant during school holidays

Vaal Triangle and other South African motorists were warned during the school holidays not to use the N3 highway between Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal at night.

The N3 toll booth says there is an increase in violent incidents on the road and motorists should rather try to plan their trips for the day. The toll road starts at the Cedara Interchange in KwaZulu-Natal and ends at the Heidelberg South Interchange in Gauteng. It is one of the busiest roads in the country.
