Juju yell ‘pay back the money’ but on the other hand he says ‘Stop lying’ about EFF’s R100K payment to AfriForum’

EFF president Julius Malema is seemingly denying paying more than R100 000 to civil-rights organisation AfriForum following a cost order.

According to a statement issued by AfriForum on Sunday, Malema and the EFF made a payment of R108 960,79 on January 10 – the second of five cost orders AfriForum obtained through various court cases brought against the EFF since March 2017.

The first payment of R126 703,59 was made on November 13 last year.

But despite the statement and the media reporting on the payment, Malema appears to be in the dark.

Replying to a report by EWN on Sunday, Malema tweeted: “I can’t afford even if I wanted to pay, stop lying.”

Asked how it felt to be “pushed” into a “#paybackthemoneysituation”, Malema replied: “Pushed by who?”

Malema later tweets: “Ok, thank you for information” and “If you don’t mind, it was between the two

Juju and land grabs: How to interpret the Trespass Acts and Riotous Assemblies

The case of Julius Malema and AfriForum is an interesting one, as it exposes the complexity of running a democratic country with laws that once were used as instruments of oppression.

Malema is by no means an unfortunate target in this instance. His rise to power with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) was founded on tapping into the core of the frustrations of the poor.

Land, employment, nationalisation and ‘white monopoly capital’ are just some of the instruments the EFF uses, to this day, to rally up the support of the majority in this country.

In 2014 he engaged crowds in Bloemfontein and Newcastle (Kwa-Zulu Natal) respectively, he got himself in trouble.

AfriForum, responding to Malema’s calls for people to occupy vacant, filed charges against the EFF leader, citing the Rioutous Assemblies Act, as well as the Trespass Act, as reasons why he should be prosecuted.

This is an interesting case because it involves two laws

The DA report BLF group to Human Rights Commission for “kill whites” comments

DA Spokesperson Solly Malatsi has filed an official complaint with the SA Human Rights commission, following comments made at a Black First Land First (BLF) rally in Potchefstroom on Sunday 9 December.

The group, known for harassing journalists and saying anything for attention, seem to have emulated the latter after leader Andile Mngxitama vowed to kill white citizens following Johann Rupert’s interview with eNCA.

When the billionaire took part in the broadcast, he made some very uncomfortable points about race and upset many black South Africans, blaming many in the demographic for wanting to waste their money in nightclubs instead of deciding to save it up.
