Gangsterism and cutting off your nose to spite your face, seems to be a recurring theme in #TheAfricanWay: Amsterdam in Mpumalanga has instituted its own internal electricity revolving power cuts, of 5 hours per day, and the Mayor refuses to speak English at community feedback meetings.

The Mkhondo (Piet Retief) municipality serving Amsterdam in Mpumalanga has now also instituted “internal” load shedding on top of Eskom’s own load shedding. The community is in uproar over an additional 5 hours per day load shedding, on top of the scheduled Eskom load shedding. Giel Coetzer, a businessman in town says his business is at a standstill and everyone’s food and meat is rotting in their fridges. In 25 years of African National Congress (ANC) rule, South Africa has become just another failed African state.

They were handed a beautiful, orderly, wealthy first world State on a silver platter in 1994. A country that was exporting to Africa, surrounding islands and foreign countries, a country that was economically, industrially and commercially viable and capable of supporting themselves. They ignored all of that and chose the path of anarchism, of over procreation, of mass-murders of the very people who grow their food and consequently harms food security.

They chose to drive the country into #StateCapture #Corruption over the fiscal cliff and into the abyss.

Think about this while listening to State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Ramaphosa on this Thursday.

Flurry of ANC MP resignations spurred on by substantial pension benefits – It’s a case of ‘getting out while the going is still good’

The ruling African National Congress (ANC) has been hit with a flurry of parliamentary resignations, with nine members officially exiting the National Assembly.

In the wake of a particularly grim electoral showing, President Cyril Ramaphosa has been left to confront an arduous task – that of reunifying the deeply divided ANC, while producing positive results on his pre-election promises.

The factional battle raging fiercely within the belly of the ANC is, according to analysts, the greatest threat to Ramaphosa’s political aspirations. Indeed, the insecure power balance – hung on the scales of unshakable loyalty – has already proven especially detrimental to Ramaohosa’s campaign of renewal.

While the recent flurry of resignations may, at first glance, signal a sincere attempt at cleaning house – with some persuasion from the ANC’s Integrity Committee – the truth of the exodus may be far simpler.

ANC lies, rape and murder: MAPHATSOE, a uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans’ Association president, says he has all the ‘SHOCKING’ files

JOHANNESBURG – uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans’ Association (MKMVA) president Kebby Maphatsoe threatened to reveal information about lies, rape, and murder in the party’s military camps in exile.

Maphatsoe told Eyewitness News that the African National Congress (ANC) members killed their own comrades in Uganda where he was exiled.

The former deputy minister recently expressed his anger at the party’s integrity commission, saying the body had used false stories about how he lost his arm to question his credentials.

His critics have reduced his role in exile to camp cook and they have called him an absconder from an ANC camp in Uganda.

But Maphatsoe said he was tired of people misrepresenting his struggle credentials and threatened to expose what he said was the mess that happened within ANC camps.

The South African political parties in favour of the death penalty, do you want the Death Penalty to be enforced?

It’s one of the more divisive topics up for discussion during the 2019 Elections, but the subject of re-introducing the death penalty often proves to be a popular one when the politicians are on the prowl for our votes.

South Africa’s abnormally-high crime rates and propensity for gender-based violence often gets emotions running high – which is perhaps a good enough argument for why this particular punishment should not be used as an electioneering tool.

In fact, these were sentiments echoed by Clare Ballard, the head of the penal reform programme of Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) in midweek. She said that the conversation merely deflects from the actual causes of crime:

“The death penalty is not a quick fix and it does not cure crime. Every time politicians avoid confronting the complex truths about crime and punishment, we lose a vital opportunity to examine what it will take to ensure real safety for everyone.”

JOHANNESBURG – Police Minister Bheki Cele says that officers will not be kind to those seeking to disrupt people from participating in the elections, law enforcement agencies will ensure that voters’ rights to cast their ballots are protected.

Cele was speaking during a briefing by the African National Congress (ANC)’s peace and security sub-committee at Luthuli House on Sunday.

He says that law enforcement agencies will ensure that voters’ rights to cast their ballots are protected.

“We won’t be kind to those that block people who are going to vote. If you don’t want to vote, we can’t push you there, but you’re not going to stop other people going there. We are not going to be kind to those people in terms of implementing the law.”

South Africans are set to go to the polls in just under two months, on 8 May.

Unions in SA threatens total Eskom shutdown, get your candles, oil lamps ready and get those gas stove working

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) says that its members will down tools as it continues to face an impasse with Eskom.

In a statement on Tuesday (12 March), the union said that it was concerned about the potential unbundling of the power utility into three separate entities.

“The shop stewards are very angry towards the attitude so far demonstrated by the leadership in government, led by the African National Congress (ANC), who are talking in tongues about the future of workers at Eskom,” it said.

“They are unable to explain properly what the unbundling means to thousands of poor workers.”

NUM said that there had also been no guarantee to prevent retrenchments during the unbundling process.

It added that the board of Eskom has totally failed in their duties to develop a turn-around strategy towards the improvement of Eskom’s performance.

Nyanda and Trevor Manual Drop Bombshells – Guptas Wielded Significant Influence in the Appointment and Dismissal of Ministers

Siphiwe Nyanda, former cabinet minister told the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture today that he met with the Gupta brothers in the presence of former president Jacob Zuma’s son Duduzane Zuma. They introduced themselves and their company, Sahara Computers and indicated a desire to have a private meeting with him.

Under his portfolio as communications minister, Nyanda had oversight over the SABC, Icasa, Films and Publications Board and Brand SA, among others. The Guptas are suspected to have wielded significant influence in the appointment and dismissal of ministers who could further their business interests.

Nyanda’s meeting with the Guptas fell through because he was fired by Zuma during one of the former president’s cabinet reshuffles.

Earlier in the day, former finance minister Trevor Manuel testified that the reshuffle was aimed at replacing reluctant ministers with pliable ones who would work to further the business interests

Juju and land grabs: How to interpret the Trespass Acts and Riotous Assemblies

The case of Julius Malema and AfriForum is an interesting one, as it exposes the complexity of running a democratic country with laws that once were used as instruments of oppression.

Malema is by no means an unfortunate target in this instance. His rise to power with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) was founded on tapping into the core of the frustrations of the poor.

Land, employment, nationalisation and ‘white monopoly capital’ are just some of the instruments the EFF uses, to this day, to rally up the support of the majority in this country.

In 2014 he engaged crowds in Bloemfontein and Newcastle (Kwa-Zulu Natal) respectively, he got himself in trouble.

AfriForum, responding to Malema’s calls for people to occupy vacant, filed charges against the EFF leader, citing the Rioutous Assemblies Act, as well as the Trespass Act, as reasons why he should be prosecuted.

Ramaphosa’s government doesn’t have an economic policy. All that’s been forthcoming is a stimulus package, plus two summits.

As the entrails of the era under South Africa’s former president Jacob Zuma continue to be exposed each day before a commission set up to investigate corruption, so the country witnesses the consolidation of the political project spearheaded by the new head of state Cyril Ramaphosa.

But a key piece of the puzzle is missing: Ramaphosa’s government doesn’t have an economic policy. All that’s been forthcoming is a stimulus package, plus two summits – one on jobs, the other on investment. Do these add up to an economic policy?
