Poor workmanship and unfinished work by BEE company cost taxpayers R102 million
Poor and incomplete work at a development in Germiston leads to thousands of rands being lost with a R102 million project undertaken by the Development Bank and the Ekurhuleni municipality.
The project is wrecking due to the inability of the contractor, TCT Civil & Construction, to complete the work.
Poor workmanship is just one of the problems as the project had to be completed in January 2019.
Postponement until April 2019 did not yield any result. TCT, according to their website, is committed to transformation and empowerment and is a BEE company.
However, the company blames other contractors for the delay, but the R5,000 penalty clause imposed could be R170 000. Furthermore, the Development Bank believes that the construction company is not guilty of poor workmanship.

City of Tshwane residents, this is where your tax money is going to – Tshwane spends R60 000 daily on abandoned business park
The City of Tshwane is spending at least R60 000 daily on the abandoned R525 million Business Processing Outsourcing park (BPO) in Hammanskraal.
Launched in 2016 by the then ANC administration, the project promised to create 3000 jobs through on-site training, technical support and incubators for small and medium micro-enterprises.
It stalled under the watch of former mayor Solly Msimanga, who attributed its stoppage to a group of local business people demanding work during the construction phase.
However, MMC for Economic Development and Spatial Planning Isak Pietersen said part of the problems related to the nature of litigation between the City and the previous contractor. “We need to negotiate and make sure we settle that because the aim of the executive mayor is to unlock it and make sure the project runs so that the community can benefit out of it,” he said.
Pietersen disclosed that the City was bound to pay the main contractor

R6 million in taxpayer money has been wasted on an unfinished project in Boksburg by the Ekurhuleni municipality
The Ekurhuleni mayor said the metro would construct a specialised services precinct, but failed to elaborate on the project being a disaster.
A source has revealed that R6 million in taxpayers’ money has allegedly been wasted on an unfinished project in Boksburg by the Ekurhuleni municipality, Boksburg Advertiser reports.
During the delivery of his state of the city address at the Germiston Council Chambers last month, Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina said the metro would construct a specialised services precinct in Boksburg.
The councillor said the delays on the construction as well as the damages mean the project will cost taxpayers much more than it should have.
The mayor, however, did little to inform the public that the construction of the precinct in question has already proven to be a failed project, as the company appointed to carry out the job left the site almost a year ago.
According to a well-placed source, construct

Cleaning project at Nelson Mandela Bay worth more than R5.8 million struggles to kick off, one can only imagine where taxpayers money disappear to if it is not being used for the original purpose, certainly into some very fortune politicians ‘wallet ?
The Nelson Mandela Bay’s informal settlement were earmarked to undergo a “cleaning” project on November 1, 2018.
The so-called “clean & green” project would have created 200 temporary jobs. Initially, head of public health, Yolisa Pali disrupted the project as she was not familiar with the task. So the plan was postponed to December 1 and yet again it couldn’t start due to a shortage of workers and the attention was shifted to clean up beaches.
Questions are asked about the hundreds of unemployed people in the area and of course why the neighborhoods are so dirty and where are the funds currently?
