#BetterUnderApartheid An important electrical sub-station in Springs, which was damaged during a break-in by vandals last year, was left in the dilapidated state, creating a fire risk, has finally burnt down on Sunday, leaving thousands of residents and manufacturing businesses in the industrial area New Era, without electricity. It could take up to 2 weeks to repair the damage.

The businesses in the industrial area like Kellogg’s, will obviously lose millions of Rands in lost manufacturing. The substation was never properly fixed after the last break-in and an electrician warned the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality in a damage report, which was compiled after the last break-in, that the substation is a ticking time bomb, and was for instance, not properly earthed.

The reason for the Metro’s lack of action to fix the damage seems to be that the insurer never wanted to pay out an insurance claim for the damage caused by the vandals. Dare we ask

Shock waves hover over town in East Rand after a beloved businessman was killed in his home

An elderly businessman Hans van Rooyen (83), from Nigel on the East Rand was killed in his home on Tuesday afternoon.

It is alleged that the crime was committed when van Rooyen, who owns a workshop in the town, went home for lunch around 2 p.m.

According to Martin Harris, Chairman of the neighborhood watch Nigel Community on Patrol, a neighborhood watch member saw suspects in a vehicle in front of van Rooyen’s home at 2.30pm. The neighborhood watchman pursued them, after which the vehicle sped off. The member chased them to Alrapark, a neighborhood just outside Nigel. Harris says the suspects lost control of the vehicle on a turn, where the vehicle rolled and landed on its roof. The occupying suspects ran away.

The neighborhood watch member gave the vehicle registration number to the police, after which it was determined that it belonged to Van Rooyen. One of the neighborhood watch members was sent to Van Rooyen’s residential address

STILL MISSING REPORT:- Search continues for missing Polokwane woman

POLOKWANE – The police appeals to the public to help reunite, Missing woman Lindi Bezuidenhout with her family.

In a statement issued by Police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe he says Lindi was last seen at a house in Flora Park in 2017.

“It is alleged she left Polokwane in 2017 to visit her relatives who stayed in the East Rand, Gauteng.
Unfortunately, she never reached her destination and has since never returned home.”

Attempts to locate her at friends at family have since been unsuccessful.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the Lindi can contact Warrant 0fficer Peter Mangakeng on 082 728 9833. Alternatively, they can contact the 24-hour crime stop number on 0860010111, the crime line sms 32211 or should contact the nearest police station.

Sex education taken to far in SA: East Rand principal suspended for allegedly impregnating 2 of his pupils

A Daveyton high school principal has been suspended with immediate effect after it came to light that he had allegedly impregnated two of his pupils.

Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona confirmed the principal’s suspension to News24 on Friday.

Mabona said a delegation from the Gauteng education department, which included MEC Panyaza Lesufi, visited the school on Thursday and served the suspension notice on the principal.

“We will be offering counselling and support to the girls along with their parents,” Mabona said.

“Our investigation is continuing.”

Mabona said the allegations were reported to the department shortly before schools closed for holidays after the first term.

“That made it difficult for us to investigate and affected the process of gaining information.

“But since the schools reopened, we acted as soon as we could.”
