The Department of Public Works says a “rapid follow-up” process is planned to make land available quickly to give momentum to the landgrab program.
The state has a property portfolio of more than 93,000 buildings and more than 1.9 million hectares of land under the control of the Department.
The government’s land-grabbing program entails that land, as well as any other property, can be claimed by the rulers without compensation.
During a briefing in the parliamentary committee, Sasa Subban, the deputy director general of the department said a 100 properties were earmarked to be released by the end of 2019, and 100 properties in the following year financial year.
He says the North West has been identified as the province with the largest number of outstanding restitution claims, which apparently cover 93 properties.
