According to research, many South Africans are ‘too broke to retire’

A large number of South Africans earning at least R15,000 a month are delaying retirement because they simply can’t afford it, a survey found.

South Africans’ spending habits and aspirations were at odds with reality, a survey by money lender Wonga has shown.

Meanwhile, research also shows that many people are simply too broke to afford retirement.

According to the 2019 Old Mutual Savings and Investment Monitor’s latest findings, a large number of South Africans earning at least R15,000 a month were delaying retirement because they simply could not afford it.

The survey results showed that half of the country’s retirees were working for an employer, 36% had started a business post-retirement, while 13% continued to be self-employed or took up a position as a consultant.

SURVEY – SAPS CONSIDERED MOST CORRUPT INSTITUTION IN SA

Of the 47,000 citizens surveyed in 35 African countries, more than half believed corruption was getting worse in their country.

The Global Corruption Barometer (GCB) Africa on Thursday revealed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) is considered the most corrupt institution in the country.

The GCB is the largest, most detailed survey of citizens’ views on corruption and bribery in Africa. The survey was conducted between the end of July and September last year.

The survey also revealed that 64% of those surveyed think corruption levels increased during the past 12 months. However, overall the SAPS was considered the most corrupt institution in South Africa.

“It is absolutely essential that corruption in the police is tackled. I have to say that it is not an uncommon result across countries and not only in Africa. In some sense, police have extraordinary power and therefore it is there to be abused,” said Corruption Watch’s

Unemployment in SA is currently 27.6% – but the ANC regime tells voters how the figure is going to fall, they just have to vote for the party

The South African economy started at a very bitter note this year with unemployment rising to 27.6%. This was 27.1% in the fourth quarter of 2018, but the ANC regime told voters how the figure was going to fall, they just had to vote for the party.

Extensive unemployment has risen to the highest level so far, 38%. It was previously 37%, which was already a record. By contrast, the number of unemployed increased by 3.7% to 6.3 million and the number of discouraged job seekers by 7.5% to nearly 3 million. This means that nearly 9.2 million South Africans of working age (aged 15-64) are not in school, do not study further and are not voluntarily unemployed (such as homemakers or early retired people). The number of unemployed has risen almost twice as fast as the number of working-age people, increasing by 1.6% to about 38.3 million.

More than half a million South Africans murdered since 1994 – South Africa’s murder crisis is so serious that some South Africans are more likely to be murdered than the residents of many terror-affected countries

Approximately 500,000 South Africans have been murdered since 1994, according to findings from the 2017 South Africa Survey released by the IRR.

In its 2017 South Africa Survey‚ the IRR noted that approximately 445,835 murders had been recorded in the country between April 1994 and March 2016.

IRR crime analyst Kerwin Lebone said: “South Africans live with horrific levels of violent crime. While the murder rate has fallen since 1994, at 31.9 per 100 000 people, it remains one of the highest in the world.”

According to Lebone, South Africa’s murder rate is:

almost 29 times higher than that in Australia, which is at 1.1 per 100 000 people.
almost 30 times higher than that in the United Kingdom, and 45 times higher than that in Germany, which are at 1.0 and 0.7 per 100 000 people respectively.
almost nine times higher than that in the United States of America, which is at 3.8 per 100 000 people.
