The squatters residing illegally in Mamelodi East were left scattered by the Red Ants during a cleaning process at unfinished buildings.
Rubber bullets have been used to remove more than 100 squatters. The buildings are still under construction with sanitation and electricity connections still to be done.
Allegations that the buildings have been empty for three years apparently lead to frustration by the squatters. Residents have warned the government that they will make Mamelodi ungovernable if they do not provide housing.
