South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) has plans to amended the constitution, legalize land seizure without paying for it. The move is “not only about correcting a great historical injustice; it is also an absolute economic necessity,” according to President, Cyril Ramaphosa.
This time though, the proposed land reforms include expropriation without compensation, and this has stoked fears among white South Africans. Radical activists feel empowered and ready to take land by force triggering a heated debate about whether the plan would really help heal South Africa’s unequal society.
If you killed 4000 white farmers in mass 25 years ago and robbed, raped, tortured and murdered another 40,000 whites in their homes, you would have had a war.
If you told whites 25 years ago that they would be handing their beautiful farm land over to incompetent government to nationalize, you would have a war.
