A Bedfordview Licensing Department employee was arrested on July 9 for fraudulently registering vehicles to the value of R1.2-million.
EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said the EMPD Community Liaison and Monitoring and Evaluation Unit members had been investigating the 28-year-old man for a while before he was arrested.
He said the man registered five vehicles belonging to a bank in the name of a private individual.
“The total value of the vehicles is over R1.2-m.
“One of the vehicles is a Ford Ranger, which has been traced to Zimbabwe and exported without following procedure,” said Kgasago.
Kgasago said that two clients have registered different cases at Bedfordview Police Station against the man.
“Investigations further revealed that all the five vehicles’ files had important documents missing, with two of the illegal registrations made from stolen face-value documents,” said Kgasago.
