State Attorney Addelaid Ferreira-Watt fell victim during a court hearing after a firearm went of and the bullet fatally struck her.
Addelaid Ferreira-Watt is a senior prosecutor who was killed by the freak accident while on duty in court on Monday.
The court hearing took place in the regional court in Ixopo, Natal, and she was immediately transported to a hospital where she later died.
It was later reported that the weapon had fallen, and at that time the shot went off and hit her.
The 51-year-old lawyer, Addelaid Ferreira-Watt, was hit in the hip, and the hospital spokeswoman did not want to reveal any further details.
Former Natal Hawks chief Johan Booysen expressed his shock over the fatal incident.
The firearm is a shotgun, and left a large wound due to the short distance.
