See where your money goes! – R50 million a month is spent on salaries of 400 MP’s, some of which are sleepy in parliament, or just stay at home and do nothing on a working day

The previous National Assembly speaker, Baleka Mbete, who was widely regarded as a somewhat inept person for the post she held, was worth R2,825,470 a year, amounting to a monthly fee of over R235,000.

Then there is the deputy speaker who carries a R1,977,795 a year home that amounts to about R165,000 a month.

The meeting’s chairperson, Sylvia Lucas, receives R1,882,488 a year, and then senior parliamentarians receive R1,600,467 a year (R133,000 md) and younger members of parliament R121,251 per month.

This means that more than R50 million a month is paid to the 400 parliamentarians.

If the TV cameras provide the truth then there are a lot of parliamentarians who receive a reasonable sum of money while they sleep well in the soft chair, or just stay at home and do nothing on a working day.

Why must it always be a black and white thing? – SATAWU strike against salary differences between black and white mariners will shut down Transnet ports across SA

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) said on Tuesday its members would shut down the country’s ports on Thursday as part of a strike against salary discrepancies between black and white mariners.

Negotiations between the union and the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) collapsed this week.

If the strike goes ahead it would have a devastating impact on the economy as the ports authority controls and operates all eight commercial seaports along the country’s coastline.

In a statement, Satawu spokesperson Zanele Sabela said black staffers were being paid lower wages than their white counterparts and the state-owned company had failed to address the anomaly despite acknowledging its existence.

Dissatisfied municipal workers bring Durban CBD to a halt by obstructing streets with waste

Durban’s central business area was brought to a halt when Durban Waste Removal Agency workers blocked the streets with solid waste.

Waste trucks full of garbage were used to dump into the streets. The action is in protest against raising old MK members salaries in the department.

MK members ‘salaries are apparently increased from R9,000 to R20,000 and it appears that several departments in the Durban municipality are following the same policy regarding MK members’ remuneration, but observers reckon MK members serving are working much less than the other workers.

#EskomCrisis is a ticking time bomb: Gordhan’s only plan is to keep the lights on for election

The ANC government does not have a plan to solve Eskom’s problems.

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan acknowledged that the ANC government did not have the political will to rectify the broken power entity caused by decades of mismanagement and corruption.

Natasha Mazzone, DA MP, made these accusations that Gordhan’s only plan is to keep the lights on up until election. According to Mazzone, temporary measures will be taken to delay the inevitable and the truth behind the crisis will be hidden during the election period.

Allegations that Eskom was forced to pay salaries for March using a combination of its capital budget and a Chinese loan are also doing round. The funds were earmarked for the maintenance and upkeep of the power grid. Meanwhile, Eskom has bought diesel at twice the market price just to maintain the network until after the election on May 8, 2019.
