A “harrowing” run-in with eight armed robbers has left SA Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and his wife Noluthando in “desperate need of counselling”.

That’s life, unfortunately,” Vavi tweeted on Sunday following the incident on Friday evening in Morningside Manor, Johannesburg.

The armed robbers beat up two security guards before entering the bed and breakfast which Noluthando runs, tying up the guests.

“It was just hectic. Throughout, these guys kept on demanding where she was and the keys of her car. She walked to[wards] the bandit in the passage not aware of what was happening, as she had been praying in her office all along,” Zwelinzima told TimesLIVE.

Realising what was happening, Noluthando managed to flee to her office and lock herself inside, where she called for help.

Karate dad kills knife-wielding robber during attack – Looks like crooks have met their match with this hero dad

A hero dad has saved the life of his son from knife-wielding robbers by allegedly killing one of the attackers.

The 44-year-old dad, who has a black belt in karate, put his fighting skills to use when the two skelms tried to take his 18-year-old son’s cellphone.

The father and son both sustained stab wounds.

On Thursday, the two had gone to Liberty Promenade Mall to buy takkies and took a taxi home to Colorado Park, Mitchells Plain.

They had just gotten out of the taxi on the corner of Casino and Bond streets when they were attacked.

The takkies were meant for the boy’s trip to the United Kingdom this week, where he was to participate in soccer trials for Manchester City and other clubs.

The boy’s mother asked for their identities to be protected for safety reasons.

Defenceless White Elderly in SA Targeted by Malicious Terrorists – Elderly Couple Violently Attacked on Smallholding and assaulted with a hammer

An 89-year-old man and his 57-year-old partner were attacked on their smallholding near Marikana on Thursday.

Three robbers broke into the couple’s house on their smallholding in the Barnardsvlei area while they were sleeping. The robbers demanded money and firearms, says lt.kol. Northwest police spokesperson Amanda Funani.

“The husband and wife were severely assaulted and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.”

The suspects fled the man’s Toyota pickup, cellphone, motorcycle, firearm and solar panels.

The bakkie was later found about 2 km from the smallholding with some of the stolen goods on the tray.

The police are still looking for the robbers.
