Largest and busiest police station in Free State in dire condition – Once again proof that the current government cannot maintain the country’s infrastructure

The Park Road police station located in the Free State, Bloemfontein is by far the busiest and largest police station in the province. Unfortunately, the ANC regime allowed this building to operate without the necessary amenities, it was demolished halfway and had to operate without holding cells for more than a year.

Since the building is inoperative, approximately 50 detainees who have to appear in courts must be transported daily under police supervision to and from neighbouring detention cells situated in Bainsvlei, Bot-shabelo and Petrusburg.

Renovation work at the Park Road police station began in November 2017 after a R73 million contract was awarded to Soaring Summit Development, but according to Public Works Minister Patricia de Lille, the company failed to meet the timeframes and expectations. Their contract came to and end on August 2 this year.

R6bn needed to renovate Gauteng hospitals – National Health Plan may be on ice

It will cost the state more than R6 billion to complete 32 hospitals’ safety rating. The decline and deterioration of hospitals is particularly seen in electrical installations, fire protection equipment, elevator regulations and storage facilities.

The condition can be attributed to contractors who do not deliver quality work and poor maintenance programs. There is concern that none of the hospitals will be able to be part of the government’s National Health Insurance Program as they are not accredited by the Office of Health Standards.

Meanwhile, Minister Tito Mboweni indicated in the mini-budget that the Health Plan is off track due to the extremely poor state of the South African economy.

Struggling Eastern Cape municipality’s funds used to renovate home of ANC provincial chairman

Over R1m siphoned from a municipality in the Eastern Cape was used to renovate the home of ANC provincial chairman and premier designate Oscar Mabuyane.

An invoice of R1.1m was fraudulently generated under the guise that it was for plant hire for a road construction project. However, R450,000 of that money was transferred to a company that renovated Mabuyane’s home in the suburb of Bunker’s Hill in East London. But the ANC bigwig has denied any wrongdoing. He also questioned why the allegations were surfacing now, almost a year after the transaction.

A probe by Sunday World’s sister publication, the Sunday Times, has revealed that the fraudulent invoice was paid to a company linked to ANC Eastern Cape provincial treasurer Babalo Madikizela, who is also the province’s MEC for human settlements. The questionable invoice was generated from ANC headquarters in Calata House in April last year.
