The two suspects who were arrested in connection to the murder of DA councillor in Dealesville, Monica Deniacos, and her husband, Basil, have been released.
Spokesperson of the Hawks in the Free State, Lynda Steyn says the two men, who are illegal immigrants, were released on Sunday night due to a lack of evidence.
It was initially reported that the men would make their first appearance in the Dealesville Magistrates Court on Monday, but police later confirmed that they could not link the men to the crime.
The 68-year-old Monica Deniacos and her 74-year-old husband Basil’s bodies were discovered by their domestic worked when she arrived for work on Friday.
Monica’s body was found in the passage and her husband’s on the floor next to his bed.
It is alleged the couple was murdered on Thursday.
Police have also identified a blunt object as the murder weapon.
