12,432 SASSA beneficiaries defrauded on social grants toting up to R21 million

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu announced in a parliamentary reply on Tuesday that about 20,787 fraud cases were registered at the Post Office by June 28 this year. Furthermore, it has also been revealed that 12 432 pensioners as well as other beneficiaries have been deceived in the past year from their social grants, collectively more than R21 million.

Liezl van der Merwe, IFP MP, wanted to know from Zulu how many fraudulent pensioners and other beneficiaries had reported to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) over the past 12 months, whether it was resolved and whether the stolen money was recovered . To which Zulu replied that criminal investigations are currently pending and that the money was never recovered.

ANC at fault for municipal chaos, collapse of infrastructure and to blame for water shortages

The single biggest reason why residents in certain municipal regions have water shortages is the chaos in municipalities across the country, particularly those under ANC governance that do not pay their water accounts.

The Minister admitted that part of the problem is the collapse of infrastructure. It is too bad that she did not also admit that it is the ANC’s fault.

It is becoming increasingly unacceptable to blame the previous dispensation. Apartheid has nothing to do with the ANC’s fraud, corruption and sheer inability to govern. Municipalities’ outstanding debt to nine different water councils currently amounts to R14 billion. The money cannot simply be written off.

This is no small change – Bedfordview Licensing Station employee arrested for for fraudulently registering vehicles to the value of R1.2-million

A Bedfordview Licensing Department employee was arrested on July 9 for fraudulently registering vehicles to the value of R1.2-million.

EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said the EMPD Community Liaison and Monitoring and Evaluation Unit members had been investigating the 28-year-old man for a while before he was arrested.

He said the man registered five vehicles belonging to a bank in the name of a private individual.

“The total value of the vehicles is over R1.2-m.

“One of the vehicles is a Ford Ranger, which has been traced to Zimbabwe and exported without following procedure,” said Kgasago.

Kgasago said that two clients have registered different cases at Bedfordview Police Station against the man.

“Investigations further revealed that all the five vehicles’ files had important documents missing, with two of the illegal registrations made from stolen face-value documents,” said Kgasago.

SANDF MAJOR GENERAL ALLEGEDLY AWARDED HIS WIFE TENDER WORTH R210M

JOHANNESBURG – The South African National Defence Force (Sandf) is reportedly investigating a major general for allegedly awarding defence tender contracts to his spouse worth R210 million.

The Sunday Times reported the probe is looking into suspected fraud and corruption in contracts awarded by army boss Noel Ndhlovu to his wife’s company.

The newspaper claimed the investigation started when Sandf examined some of the tenders secured by Nomsa Ntsomdwana Ndhlovu.

In one tender for transport and military equipment, the paper said rival bidders were later revealed to be a taxi business, stationary supplier which claim to have no knowledge about any Sandf tender.

Ndhlovu is also accused of submitting false document and forging a signature.

The paper reported that she was awarded another tended this year worth R24 million to transport military equipment for services not rendered.

PAY BACK THE MONEY: Gupta-Linked Trillian ordered to pay Eskom R600m as a result of an invalid deal involving corruption and fraud

JOHANNESBURG – Gupta-linked global consultancy firm Trillian capital has been ordered to pay Eskom R600 million.

In March last year, the power utility sued both Trillian and McKinsey for the repayment of almost R1.6 billion allegedly unlawfully paid to them as a result of an invalid deal involving corruption and fraud.

McKinsey has since paid back the R1 billion it received from Eskom, but Trillian vehemently opposed the application, claiming it was McKinsey’s local partner and sub-contractor and was never involved in any corruption.

ARMS DEAL COMMISSION FAILED TO DO ITS JOB – Corruption Watch wants the court to review and set aside the findings of the inquiry that was appointed by former president Jacob Zuma

The court application by Corruption Watch and Right2know comes after Judge Willie Seriti, who headed the commission exonerated politicians of wrongdoing-when he released his report in 2016.

Corruption Watch has argued in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria that the arms deal commission failed to do its job.

The anti-corruption organisation wants the court to review and set aside the findings of the inquiry that was appointed by former president Jacob Zuma in 2011 to investigate alleged corruption in the multibillion-rand arms procurement deal in 1999.

The court application by Corruption Watch and Right2know comes after Judge Willie Seriti, who headed the commission, exonerated politicians of wrongdoing when he released his report in 2016.

Orange prison garb awaits former general manager of municipality who stole R230,000 for next 6 years after convicted of fraud and corruption

The manager of the (Mangaung) larger Bloemfontein municipality, Lehlohonolo Nakedi, has to report to the Bloemfontein Correctional Facility today to serve 10 years in prison.

Nakedi was found guilty in 2013 of corruption, fraud and money laundering. His fight to escape prison was finally ended when the Constitutional Court dismissed his appeal.

He will serve two sentences of 10 and 8 years at a time, but opinionists believe he should have been behind bars six years ago, so that he should not be granted access to further court cases.

SAPS rotten with corruption, even members in top ranks are criminals and offenders – Former police commissioner arrested on charges of fraud

Khomotso Phahlane, the former acting police commissioner, appeared in the specialized trade crime court in Johannesburg.

He and police chief of supply management, Ravichandran Pillay, were arrested on fraud charges.

They therefore stand with former Gauteng police commissioner Deliwede Lange and officials Vimpie Phineas Manthata, Ramahlapi Johannes Mokwena, James Ramanjalum and Nombhuruza Napo on charges of alleged fraud of more than R80 million.

Phahlane dismisses the case as attempts by Robert McBride and OPOD to improve McBride’s image while McBride himself is accused of corruption.

Biggest technical training university in SA is on the verge of collapse due to chaos and corruption

The Minister of Education and Authorities was asked to investigate allegations of fraud, death threats, corruption and nepotism at the Vaal University of Technology (VUT).

VUT is currently one of the largest technical training universities in the country with 20,000 students.

Allegations of conflict between high-ranking officials have long been made in press reports.

According to reports, the institution is on the verge of collapse due to large-scale financial plundering. The previous Vice-Chancellor, Mpho Diago, resigned this week amid death threats over his alleged “whistle-blowing” around corruption and mismanagement.

Whistle-blower Agrizzi arrested on corruption charges, but big fish like not Watson, Dudu Myeni, Nomvula Mokonyane, Gwede Mantashe are still as free as birds

Shortly after evidence were giving during the Bosasa debacle, the Hawks struck and arrested five people including Agrizzi and Van Tonder who acts as witnesses for Watson’s large-scale fraud and bribery actions.

The question now arises why Watson, Dudu Myeni, Nomvula Mokonyane, Gwede Mantashe and the rest of the crooks were not arrested? It is after all they who provided and received the money for the millions of contracts. Is there a snake in the grass somewhere here?

Is R500,000 enough to buy immunity from prosecution? Brigadier Mulaudzi of the Hawks denies any political fuss and there would be evidence that politicians were involved in illegal activities there against them. Observers point out that the investigation into Bosasa was already completed in 2009 and the fact that the Hawks are only now showing irregularities in the legal process.

eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede and senior ANC councillor in the metro Mondli Mthembu face the possibility of arrest by the Hawks after the completion of a lengthy investigation into allegations of money laundering, fraud and corruption against them.

Following the arrest of three municipal officials on charges of fraud and theft early last week, City Press can today reveal that the Hawks have shifted their focus to Gumede and Mthembu and are ready to pounce on the two.

More Corruption and Bribery at Traffic Department – Hawks arrest another bunch of corrupt traffic officials in Khayalitsha

The Hawks arrested seven traffic officials for issuing drivers licenses for payment. A security guard and six female test officers will appear in court on complaints of fraud and corruption.

The violations at Khayalitsha have taken place since January 2015 and October 2018. It appears that these types of offenses are not eradicated, as licensing officers are shortly arrested for the same complaints.
