Legal action demanded against KZN businessman after comparing people at a Richards Bay beachfront with baboons

A businessman is in trouble after apparently comparing black people to baboons at a Richards Bay beachfront in a Facebook post.

Lorenzo Greyling, a KwaZulu-Natal businessman, allegedly made the statements on the Facebook group Selling Things in Richards Bay, after someone complained about the litter that was strewn on the beach after the 2019 uMhlathuze beach party.

“What do you expect from these barbarians? They don’t have manners, just like animals. Do you think a baboon or monkey picks up what he eats? No, they eat everything and just leave it on the floor, ”the post states. The placement was made on December 17 and has since been removed.

Slondile Mkhize, the speaker of uMhlathuze, now wants to take legal action against Greyling. He called on the Human Rights Commission to actually take action against Greyling and teach him “and others” to think twice before posting anything objectionable on social media.

‘K-word’ can only be offensive when used by whites, says black lawyer

The alleged threat made by businessman Peter-Paul Ngwenya that he would kill his former business associates is a fabrication, the defence argued on Thursday.

“The accused denies emphatically that he uttered the words that he ‘would kill these dogs’. It’s a concoction,” said Ngwenya’s lawyer, advocate Nqabayethu Buthelezi, during closing arguments in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

Ngwenya is facing charges of contravening a protection order and of crimen injuria for allegedly calling Investec chair and former long-term friend, Fani Titi, the k-word in a text message.

The conflict between Ngwenya and Titi stems from a business deal that turned sour.

Ngwenya allegedly sent SMSes telling MRC Media managing director Aqeel Patel “you will bleed,” and that Titi would “see his mother” – regarded by Titi as a threat to his life.

Sars auditors jailed after being caught with R200,000 cash bribe to make KZN businessman tax problems disappear

Two former SA Revenue Service (Sars) customs auditors will spend three years in jail for attempting to solicit a bribe from a prominent KwaZulu-Natal businessman “to make his tax problems disappear”.

Pranesh Maharaj and Reuben Moodley were both caught red-handed with cash bribes of R100,000 in brown envelopes during a police operation in March last year.

The two men, who both resigned from Sars during a disciplinary hearing last year, were sentenced in the Durban Regional Court on Thursday last week.

The court also sentenced them to an additional two years’ imprisonment, conditionally suspended for five years.

“The two auditors acknowledged that they had issued a notice to a well-known KwaZulu-Natal businessman in February 2018, advising him of an imminent audit of companies where he was a director.
