Coffin due gets lighter sentence after successful appeal

The appeal of the so-called coffin due was successful. Theo Jackson and Willem Oosthuizen’s sentence was reduced to five years, of which they have already served two years.

The two men were also sued for R400 000 by Victor Mlotsha after they forced him into a coffin.

Jackson was sentenced to 14 years and Oosthuizen to 11 years.

The two men who were shot after allegedly forcing another man into a coffin and, among other things, threatened to put a snake in the coffin with him.

A video of the incident circulated on social media, but it is not clear when the incident occurred. The video shows a man crying as he is forced into a coffin by two other men. One can hear in the background how a man’s voice says: “Come on, we want to throw the gasoline, man. Get in! ”

The man in the coffin identified as Victor Rethabile Mlotshwa and, according to notorious, the incident occurred on a farm near the Komati power station.</p

BLF heads to court over IEC’s ‘unjust decision’ to de-register it as political party – believes that they have “strong prospects of success” on appeal

BLF deputy president Zanele Lwana said in a statement on Wednesday that the IEC had made an “unjust decision”.

“This is a banning order against BLF.”

The IEC announced in a statement on Monday it was de-registering the BLF as a political party, after the FF+ appealed against the BLF’s registration because it excluded membership based on race.

The IEC defended its decision to approve the BLF’s registration in 2016, as it said the BLF’s constitution did not expressly exclude white people from membership.

But the IEC de-registered the party after its leader Andile Mngxitama admitted to the Electoral Court that it’s constitution excluded white people from joining based on their race.

Lwana believes the BLF has “strong prospects of success” on appeal.

Zuma has to pay more than R16 million for years of court cases sponsored by taxpayers’ money

The courts reportedly last week dismissed Jacob Zuma’s plea for leave to appeal against a finding that he can’t use state funds to pay for his defence costs.

Former President Jacob Zuma has reportedly lost his latest court bid and would have to pay more than R16 million spent over 14 years on litigation.

The Business Day has reported that the High Court in Pretoria last week dismissed Zuma’s plea for leave to appeal against a finding that he couldn’t use State funds to pay for his defence costs.

Zuma was trying to avoid trial on corruption, money laundering and racketeering charges related to the multibillion-rand arms deal, which first surfaced in 2009.

Boer Political Prisoners ask release due to unlawful incarceration – court deem application vexatious and frivolous,  judgment has been reserved

18, 19 and 20 June 2019 will be a watershed case, which will determine whether there is any place left in the South African courts for the constitution and international covenants.  It will show whether revenge on and oppression of the Boer people pertains such a priority in South Africa that it negates all justice.

The Pretorius family, which is connected to the Boeremag case, is to launch an application on 18 June 2019 in the High Court of Pretoria, challenging the lawfulness of their incarceration and ask for permanent release, alternatively temporary release pending their complaint filed at the United Nations’ Committee for Human Rights.  They were arrested in 2002 and sentenced in October 2013 between 30 and 35 years imprisonment for high treason.

EFF loses appeal bid in Trevor Manuel defamation case and still face R500 000 in damages

The South Gauteng High Court has dismissed an EFF application for leave to appeal a defamation ruling in a case brought against them by Trevor Manuel.

In late May Judge Elias Matojane had ordered the EFF to apologise to Manuel after the former finance minister sued the party for alleging in a statement that he was a business associate of and related to new SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter. Matojane also awarded Manuel R500 000 in general damages.

The EFF, in a statement in March, had described Manuel’s involvement in Kieswetter’s selection process as “nepotistic” and “corrupt”.

Manuel was the head of a selection panel, appointed by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, tasked with interviewing candidates to head up the tax agency. The panel made recommendations for the top job, but did not make the final decision.

Resentment starting to soar as UFS beckoned to remove the statue of Pres. Steyn from its Bloemfontein campus – To remove a heritage resource just to adapt to a specific group’s subjective opinion cannot erase the past

AfriForum and various other conservation organisations, including the Bloemfontein Cultural Association, the Association for Christian Higher Education in Bloemfontein and the Gereformeerde Geloof Bond (which includes congregations across South Africa and to which 32 congregations are affiliated), on 10 May 2019, objected to the issuing of a permit by the Free State Provincial Heritage Resources Authority (FSPHRA).

This permit grants permission to the University of the Free State (UFS) to relocate the statue of Pres. M.T. Steyn from its Bloemfontein campus to the War Museum.

In AfriForum’s appeal against the permit issued, it emphasised, among other things, that the relocation would rather polarise students on campus than to promote respect and social cohesion amongst them.

BLF found guilty of hate speech, criminal charges may follow – But they are not going to remove the slogan and  not going to apologize either

Andile Mngxitama’s Black First Land First has been ordered to issue a written apology to all South Africans within a  month.

The Equality Court has found that the Black First Land First (BLF) political slogan on land is hate speech.

The clerk of the Equality Court was directed to send a copy of the judgment to the director of public prosecutions, “for possible institution of criminal proceedings against the BLF and its leaders,” Buang Jones‏, an attorney at the SA Human Rights Commission, tweeted on Monday.

The BLF regularly used the slogans “kill the boer”, “one settler, one bullet’ and ‘land or death’.

The BLF was also ordered to remove the slogans from its regalia, social media accounts and website within a month.

In addition, the BLF was ordered to issue a written apology to all South Africans within a  month.
